RK sport header finally on the car.
Sunday, March 27, 2005 8:41 PM
Well i have had this since the supercharger arrived but was to lazy to put it on until today... so here are the pictures... and i love it... there is a small noticeable gain in power in the low rpms.... then again in the high rpm range, nothing to big in the middle. But also the only parts i have on my car right now is the S/C running 4psi and the RK sport 4-2-1 header... Every thing else is stock until i feel like putting the other stuff on.

The original hole was 2inches... on the RK sport header each hole is just over 2inches

i didnt realize rk made a header with that design for the LD9

Yea i thought about going with the pace setter... but i wanted gains in the low and high end... just kind of even things out... so i went with RK sport's 4-2-1 style... also its not like their 4-1 style where the O2 sensor is only on the one collector. for the 4-2-1 the O2 sensor is placed at the every end of the header which i like. And i love the look of it... Reminds me kind of like a Turbo Manifold the way it sticks up.

Yeah, I just got my 2005 RKSport Catalog the other day and this header looks really nice. I also noticed that the O2 sensor was at the bottom flex joint instead of in the runners. If I had the extra money laying around, I'd go with it. It reminds me of one of those turbo manifolds too

Yea this header was fairly expensive... alittle more then i wanted to put out for a 4cly. engine... but i wanted a 4-2-1 header and the only other one i found was the Bills/stans header and that one was WAY to much money.

sorry the rk header is junk

the pacesetter is still all aroud better...

hopefully RK spent a lot more time designing your header then the ecotecs

ecotec header lost tq and gained like 4 hp... not to mention the fact mine was in 2 pieces for 3 months... flex joint broke.. but good luck

Well from people i have talked to they said they would buy a RK sport over a pace setter.. not saying i hate pace setter, but i think the rk sport one a better design, and had more thought go into it there for the flex join is in there. And my dad who has built up many engines, looked at the header and was very impressed at the way it was put together and designed. And so far i love it...

Just curious, why do you think they are junk? you don't even have one so i don't understand how you think this?

Not to kill your glory but have fun with the underhood heat, especially if you switch out that pulley for a smaller one. My stock manifold with the 2.6" pulley is worse enough.

I'll have a full stans system on my car in two weeks.

I dont have one?

I had one for over a year... it SUCKS I lost tq with it and gained like 3 or 4 whp... NOT worth it, plus it broke and rusted

my buddy who went from the rk to pacesetter gained tq and hp all OVER the rpm range over the rk

Mr. Pute... well every after market header is going to produce more heat under the hood... i know this one sticks up higher bringing more of the heat up wards and maybe making it a bit worse. But i am going with alcohol injection like yours so that will help some what. And actually today it got to 18 degree C today and even after i raced my buddy the temp gauge didn't read any higher then it got last summer when the engine was bone stock.

QBE - hey i am not calling you a lier, but from what i have personally seen it is better then before. Also i don't know how you can really loose hp or tq? a header is a header, its going to be better flowing then the stock one so i just don't get how you will loose power? And how did it rust? its all ceramic coated... and did you have the 4-1 style or the 4-2-1 style?

Aw man how did I miss this post.

Hey QBE,
Did you have the 4-2-1 before or after the cams?

I have had the 421 since october of 03, it rusted because the coating is cheap... secondly it's a bad design causing the gases to get backed up in that crazy design...

a header is not just a header, there has to be a design that flows better, making it look crazy is going to make exhaust gases flow slower without some tuning and thats what happened, I lost tq all over, and only gained 4 whp from it.
they only make one style, the 4-2-1 for the ecotecs.. the piece at the cat rusted through, it's salty here during the winters so i blame that and a low grade coating. not to mention the fact it rubbed completely through my power steering lines, causing em to lose power steering and rk claiming me it's my fault on fitment ?

freeebs- I didn't mean to snap at you, I had a abd experience with it. hopefully the 2.4 motor responds to it better

That's too bad about the experience QBE.

There are a few folks with the Weapon R 4-2-1 on their Ecotecs having a good ole time.
Granted they're SS headers.

RK sport droppin' the ball.

Meantime,
Freebs, how long did it take for you to get the part in the mail?

hey no worries, i just wasn't sure why you hated it and what not... that sucks you have had bad experiences with it. i hope i do not have the same, because i live in Calgary and they use soo much Salt on the roads for winter and this is my daily driver (unless there is too much snow i use the Tahoe its just a tank on gas so i don't use it much) but every now and then i take it into my buddys dads shop and get it up in the air and take their pressure washer and clean off all under the car ( ahah i know its stupid but i actually clean under the car like once a month) mainly to get all the rocks and dirt out of the side skirts but yea it looks like a new car under there still.

Mastin - The bracket i have holding the Cruz Control is from the Supercharger kit.. it was use to hold it over more to the passenger side, but i flipped it around and it works perfect to hold it out of the way of the header, nothing is touching the header at all on my car every thing is well away from it.
