whiteboy SUNFIRE PROJECTORS!!

we had this idea going for a long time .. just never did it yet.

this is tabasco racing car i think, and the headlights on the RIGHT are his.. i was thinking bigger the size that are on the left.

We would use same lights as i used in these lights http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=46&i=116175&t=116175

let me know what u guys think.

was thinking making just the lens + headlights,, or make the back enclosure too hmm.

that would look sick with the shaved eyelids i'm making for my hood.

i like both models that you made (or are making)

if you are looking to sell some? How much do you figure?

Thanks man and keep up the killer work.

here is going to be your problem, i tried this about 3 or 4 years ago, before john piparo and even before GM came out with the projector sunfy. i was the first....

because of the headlight design, putting in two projectors as you would like is VERY hard and near impossible. you would need to make a new front face, but the problem is that there is no room behind the headlight to physically put the projectors in, especially with the way you want to have them mounted....as for creating the rear bracket that bolts into the car, that i will say is about as impossible as anything. fabbing up some fg or metal just isnt going to cut it, you definitely need to use the stock brackets. so then, comes more issues of projector clearance. i was able to look closely at the hella projectors, and they had a really odd box type thing behind the headlight, possibly just a mock up to temporarily hold the projectors in for the show car. but remember, they have machines that will cut and mold practically anything out of plastic for production........

if you can create them, i will bow down to you for creating a marvelous feat, but remember, there is probably reasons why that right headlight is like that.....

you know if i can get the correct sizes of the said projectors and a spare headlight assembly i can create a 3d model on my pc. i can then have the proper mold made for the projectors to fit in. this could take some time though tweaking stuff out.. but in the end it would be a solid design and part for fabing.

Let me know if you are interested in this idea Whiteboy

^ the problem is that after all the time and money is spent, jbody owners are CHEAP and WONT dish out the money to pay for these. people complain over $400 on a body kit (when these things used to cost about 900, and that was for fiberglass!), you think people are going to pay 300 bucks for headlights? (which is a very feasible price to have these done professionally). the problem is, jbody owners are cheap, they want and want and want, yet when a company spends a lot of money and its time for buyers to pay up, everyone walks away because a good quality part is "too expensive". people would rather do a tuner tube removal and make a hazardous pvc intake than buy a real intake.

im not gonna want to convert my sunfire's headlights to dual bulbs just to have projectors, and i don't think too many other people will either.

stick to one projector lense so we can keep our 9007 bulb for both high beams and low. it will be so much easier and much cleaner looking.

hey you know.. i do agree with what you are saying. with regards to R&D it would be my time and i couldn't careless how much my time would cost to do such a job. I know what its like to not have enough money to get the "higher end" kits and what not. i spend alot of my time looking for deals and what not. So for me to figure something like this out i'd be helping myself and those other guys who aren't made of money.

but i do dissagree with dumb @$$ cheap mods to your car... like your air mod comment there to chop springs. that is just wrong.

Also your point about how many people would actually buy it.. your right not many... so there is no need to set up a whole manufacturing injection molding system and what not in china to get a run of 1000+ units then to charge $300-400 for them to make up the costs.

but in the end i'm not in this for money (it would be nice though) i'm in it because i love cars and i love designing stuff. I saw what whiteboy was thinking and i thought that i might be able to give him a hand with the project

that would be the ideal thing to do

As far as I know you can not use one projector lense for high and low beams.

If you look at projector housings hella offers the high beam housing and low beam housing are very very different

bi xenons

modfire, just know that it is not going to be as easy as it looks. i respect your knowledge because i notice you're an IE, I myself am in the process of finishing my schooling to become an ME, and for years now ive been designing things, including this one. its not as easy as it looks, and in terms of equipment, there has to be some type of heavy cutting machine to be able to cut the exactness required for this to work. i just wanted to let everyone know that its not a simple fiberglass and resin glass-over. if it was that, I woulda had 50 select sets offered to the members of the jbo 3 1/2 years ago.

Viper,

True.. its not going to be easy... but what is right i was thinking about thermoforming Lexan for the lense. making the molds from the actual headlight assembly. Thermoforming part is easy and i know some friends that have some homemade thermo units and use it to make prototypes n such for their clients.

After talking about all this i have an idea that i might try... still using the stock light bulb. Wow this is fun

i love a good challange!!

may take the summer to do... but it'll be interesting none the less!

we didnt look too much into it yet,, but from what i know the the head light has three main sections. THe lens, the part behind the lens and the bracket that holds the housing and lens and screws into the car. if we make the fiberglass lens and housing you mayb be able to use the stock bracket to hold it in place.

ill take a look at it later. too busy finishing the technic lip and finishing my back bumper

i say just one off it. if they work good, and fit nice, and you find a company interested in the design. send them your mold and sell the product. plain and simple.

and you can say you have a set of TRUE custom headlights. Not like some that buy the APC clears and what not. you'll be the only one to have them...

ha...you got a pic of my car at the bash before i took the bumper off. score!

anyway....if you have AIM you should IM me and we can chat about this. i would be interested in helping you get these to market (maybe even a carbon fiber version ). i have a few ideas of my own and im sure we could work something out. plus since i have these lights sitting here i can get some detailed pics of the rear and how they work, etc.

personally i think that splitting the lights into hi/lows would be the best idea by far. you can just pigtail them into your stock wiring harness. thats actually what hella was going to do for both the 00-02 cavs and the fires had they released their projectors. but you are probably only going to be able to fit 2.5-3" lights there. attached is a pic of what 3" pilot lights look like. this is what any that are manufactured should look like IMO.

anyway....IM me man and we will figure something out.

Hey Whiteboy, you stole my pic!

hahah... j/k man... the projectors look good. I say take a shot at it and see how they turn out. Sunfires need some lovin' in terms of headlights...

they dont look right for some reason to me, but there ok

I walk a lonely road
The only one I that have ever known
Don't know were it goes
But its home and I walk alone
I walk this empty street
On the Blvd. of broken dreams
Were the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk alone
My shadows the only one that walks beside me
My shallow hearts the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Till then I'll walk alone..........

Seriously people, how many times has this exact same scenario popped up and failed? Several times is the answer, simply because of the reasons Viper already pointed out. You'll get a gigantic list going, build up all kinds of hype and false hope, and in the end, you'll realize that its just not feasible and call it off. Hate to sound pessimistic, but I think I'm being realistic, which is why I said to hell with it and make my own. But if I were you, I'd simply produce the fiberglass outer bezel and sell just that, maybe even the lights that would go well with them, but don't try to sell complete headlight housings, you will just end up wasting your time for too little profit. So I suggest just focusing on forming bezels that look good, make molds of that, and sell those and have people put them together themselves.

We will see what we can do, if we figure something out we will post it and stuff. For now just don't count on us yet we will need to look at it and see what we can do.
