I HAVE NO LIGHT IN MY TACH
I was hoping to find out a way without breaking the needles so I can put white faces in and change the bulbs to something brighter, like LED's.
Please comment and support. I need some major help with the procedure, and whether or not LED's will mess everything up.

someone was saying that it is more difficult to change the cluster bulbs in a 00+ cavalier? if someone could tell me what is involved with doing this? i want to run a blue led type bulb
An 00+ cluster requires removal of the needles, de-soldering the existing bulbs and soldering the new bulbs. The only problem with this, is that if you are not extremely careful with removing your needles the cluster will be screwed up and when you go to put the needles back on, they will be out of whack. Earlier clusters allowed access to the bulbs via a screw-out retainer on the rear of the cluster for each bulb, which is not present in 00+ clusters.
I know it
can be done on 00+ clusters. Alex at Blackcatcustom does this all the time with 00+ Sunfire and Cavalier clusters, but it takes skill in doing it and if needed, knowing how to recalibrate the needles if they get screwed up.
Probably more work than you are looking to do, unless you can find someone to do it for you.

What's the best way to pull off the needles? just straight force and care?
I have heard good results with a hair drier applied to them before prying off, should expand the plastic around the metal needle, so you pull only the plastic part off.
If the metal pin comes out.....you are boned.
If its a 01 just go get another cluster out of a car from a junk yard and swap it out. Not worth the hassle of soldering anything

Many of us,
I don't think, have the experience in doing it. A lot of the people that tried in their first attempt ended up screwing up the cluster. Apparently there is a clip or something that attaches the needles to the cluster's motors and if that clip is broken, basically you are boned. Then if they are not properly attached again, the cluster will not work right.
Don't do it yourself, trust me you're better off getting a used one from a scrap yard or buying a new one online... I tried taking apart my needles myself without knowing how to do it and I screwed my cluster all up and had to order a new one.

What about lights in the AC/Heater control unit?
I have yet to actually do this yet,
however, I did happen to pull the needle out of the little motor, and you can take the motor apart and slide the needle back into place on the little cog. I don't know if it still works, looks like it should,but I have yet to try,
still have to figure out the light issue, and making sure everything is looking right.

Does any one know if you were to use those LED bulbs would they show threw a white over lay? I bought a white over lay on ebay 2 years ago and now it doesnt work and i just want to change the bulbs but not if it wont show they th eover lay.
