how do these go on? or in other words do i take the original seat covers off? are the rk sport one from katskin or closer to gm ? im waiting for mine to come in. just trying to get an idea.. since these dont seem to come with any 411 for the install..
also if anyone has pics with these on, id would like to see them.
Most leather interior kits (like katskin's) are not meant to be simple covers you just slip on and forget about..
kits like that install one of two ways..
for cars seats like ours, the fabric/factory interior is stripped out leaving bare foam..one the foam is exsposed a spray gun filled with glue and hooked to an air supply is used to spray the seat, the glue is left to air drive for several minutes to become tacky..
while this is happening the leather kit is turned inside out and is sprayed in the same manor..the kit is lined up,upside down to the backrest and rolled down the seat returning it to outside out/inside in.. everything is then alligned and smoothed into the creases by hand..the plastic clip not seen on the bottom of the back rest is cliped into place, the part of the seat you sit on is done the same way, plastic clips on the edges of the kit areclipped to the metel frame under the seat..
the second way is on seats that have the kits pulled to a sort of frame molded into the foam..
if you look at the picture below the red lines reresent where metel or plastic spines (roughly the diamiter of a coat hanger) are under the interior.. you dont feel them in most cases (unless your seat is in really bad shape) because the spines on the kit are pulled to the frame molded to the foam with little metel rings that get clamped into place..
Damnit not haveing the edit option.. hopefully that makes enough sense, its about 615 am and im tired so I slipped up a few words..lol..
but none of the kits we had ever gotten into our shop ever just slipped on..every one of them either had to be glued or attached to rings, if not they would slip out of place, bunch up,sag or gennerally look like cr@p..
the only ones I have ever known to just slip on over original interior would be the ones bought at the store.. and even in a bit of time those sag, bunch, slip and look like crap too unless re done every so often..
if ya lived closer (lol) id offer to just do it for ya ,all you really need is a spray gun (buy at home depot $25)
an air compressor, and basic set of tools you normally use to remove your seats and the glue .
all the seats can be done by one person in about an hour..4 of us that had worked at the shop could have the seats pulled from the car, stripped, reupholstered and put back in the car bolted down in under a half hour..its pretty easy to do right..
