I noticed this morning there was a bunch of nasty looking gunk in my window switches. (It'd been there since I got the car, but I finally decided to try cleaning it up)
I used a paint brush to get most of it out of there, then discovered I'd caused a problem. The windows would roll down when I push the switches down, but not up. The passenger side one goes up now, but still not the drivers side.
I'm thinking maybe something got pushed over a contact in there, but I'm not sure how or if i can completely disassemble this switch thing. If I can't get it apart and figure out what's wrong in the next couple hours, I'm gonna have to hit a junk yard. I can't have the window down in below zero weather! (And when I'm at work!)
Any ideas? Oh yeah, it's the switch assembly for an '05 sunfire (2 door)
the part the holds the switches on the center console just pulls out
Yeah, I got that part out, now iv'e got the black box with the switches. There's a white piece on the bottom covering a circuit board, but I don't see any way to take it apart further than that. Unfortunately, I've called around town and nobody's got the part at a junkyard
Use an air compressor and blow it out.
what up my man, hopefully i can give you a lil trick of mine in order to save the day.
1st off your probably right something is probably disrupting the circuit. take that whole black piece with the window switches and throw it in a plasti bag or a glad container or something of the sort with a lid that can hold liquid. go get a bottle of rubbing alcohol. dump that @!#$ in the bag. with the switch in it. Seal it up. SHAKE THE LIVING @!#$ out of it. do this for a couple minutes. this will get all the gunk spilled sodas, ash, finger nail clippings dried love stains who knows who cares. it will get it done. after your done shaking it rinse with HOTT water not boiling hott just let your water heater do the work. put the part in a dry spot and let it COMPLETELY DRY. I REPEAT COMPLETELY. you dont want left over water to cause a short do you? let it dry dont rush it. clip that bitch back on and roll up your window. if that dosnt work i can help you out with the wiring too as i have seen it all with these damn window motors and switches. their a pain. hope this helps if you need anymore help pm me.
FYI: this works for alot of other things too including cell phones (Cell phone+Beer+MilkShake+Mud= Bad night)
Yeah I just thought about trying the hot water thing. I'll do that and then set it out to dry. *crossing fingers*
If that doesn't work and I end up needing a new one, how likely is it that if I run over to the stealership they can at least do something to get the window up for me? lol
also check the weather stripping for the window..the black rubber peice that normally sits on the outside of the window sometimes flip/or folds under itself making the rubber contact the glass and not the lined part, therefore making it harder to close..it happend to me several times in the past, once even to the point i though my window motor went, if it did flip or fold under itself of the window is on top of it and not under, see if you can get your window down again, once down you may need someone to help you push the button to bring it back up,as they do that help guid the window and use a putty knife, flat head screw driver or something similer to stick under the rubber trip as the window goes up ..if this is the case you will under stand what I mean better once you see it.
dude thats why i said pm me i was using gator clips to ground wires and crossing them over to roll windows up and down for a while it was a bitch lol totally gheto but hey you gotta do what you gotta do till you get $. im not sure what wires they are ill have to go home and look and ill post back with which ones you have to connect to which other ones to get it up. you could use the haynes manual i think they have a wiring diagram for it but i did trial and error. if you want bro i can give you my cell number for whatever questions you may have.
Let us know when or if that works bro.

Woohoo! I ran some hot water through it and let it dry and it worked. THanks for the advice!
eh... no problem bro anytime anytime.
