My shifter pivot ball socket is broken!
Saturday, November 29, 2008 2:59 PM
I finally got a short throw shifter thrown in my car. Problem is, I found that the plastic cup piece that the pivot ball of the shifter sits in had a crack in two places. I'm not talking about the snap down ring that holds it down.
Just wondering if some of you guys have seen the same thing. How did you fix it? GM part number from dealer?
I know of a couple 03-05 Cavs sitting around that I could get one off of, but they could be cracked too. So, any info would help.
I thought I might could put a couple of greased up rubber washers on the shaft, against the pivot ball (that sounded perverted), under the snap down retainer ring.

BTW - this is a double post. I put it in Transmission first and then realized it would work better here.

Do you have a B&M short Shifter? If not, get one and that will solve your problems.

Damn dude how many times do you need to make this a topic. I count 3, 1 in the transmission section and two in this section. Go to a junk yard and get one.

There's one I posted right away when I found out it was broken I posted here. The other two was a day or two later after I found out what it was called.
Thanks for the junk yard idea, but it's plastic and most are dryed out or already broken. Check yours right now, it is most likely cracked, too. Go ahead, check, I'll wait...........................................................................................................told ya

I haven't owned a J in at least 4 years. But seriously dude there is no need for starting three different threads about the same thing. If you don't want one out of a junk yard go buy one from GM, if you cant get one from GM just throw the whole car away. Why was that to hard to figure out on your own?

I'm not throwing my car away because of a $5 plastic piece. I'm also not about to pay $125 for an entire assembly I don't need!
