Interior Swap Question
Saturday, November 15, 2008 9:16 AM
Are the interior pieces - other than the dash/radio bezel - interchangable between '96 and '04?

I am thinking of sanding and painting the interior for the fiberglass look and have a '96 Z24 with perfect interior. In a perfect world I would use the '96 pieces to sand/paint/swap into the '04 then place the untouched '04 pieces back in the '96 so its still a complete interior.

Thanks for the feedback.

Your going to have to swap the whole dash, cluster, and BCM or do alot of cutting to swap the bezel from 96' to 04'.

I already grabbed up an '04 bezel so not an issue. Im mostly concerned about the plastic along the inside of the door along the inner sills & the rear plastics beside the seats and the front half of the dash along the windshield (I am aware I will need to remove the entire dash to get to this piece.)

Thanks

EVERYTHING has to be swapped. The 95-99 clusters have different mounting point than the 00-05 clusters. The radio and HVAC will not swap w/o heavy cutting or swapping in the WHOLE dash. The 00-05 clusters require a BCM(Body Control Module) and 95-99 do not have one, so one needs to be wired in. Its not a easy as you think. Everything has to be swapped.(a few have gotten away with cutting up the 95-99 dash to swap the radio and HVAC).

Sorry for the confusion - let me rephrase this.

The 2004 is the important car here - not the '96.

If everything is interchangable what I want to do is gut the '96, sand, prime, and paint the interior plastics which in this case would be the plastics that run long the bottom of the inner doors, the rear plastics on the sides of the rear bench.

Once this is complete I would take the original OEM plastic out of the 2004, replace it with the painted plastics from the '96 and put the untouched '04 plastic back in the '96 so it is still a complete interior when all is said and done.

I already have a backup 2004 bezel that I can replace in the 2004 once it is painted. With that being said, the bezel/dash is of no matter in this process as the '04 dash will be untouched as far as any swapping.

The '96 is getting nothing done other than being gutted and then replaced when the orignal untouched '04 pieces once this is completed - IF the pieces are interchangeable.

Thanks for the replies and sorry for any confusion.

pretty sure the running board plastics are the same, and the rear quarter plastics I'm not sure, I would have to go check, they might be wider when they wrap around to the inside of the door like the A pillar piece does, tried to explain that right.

Ok, i thought you were saying that you wanted to put the 96' in the 04' or vice vera.

The door panels are the same, but the rear plastice on the sides are not. They can go in, but headliner has to be change. I have a 01 Z24 and put 04 interior in. To put the rear plastics I had to change the headliner (it changed in 03), which also saw a change to the rear plastics. The running board plastics are the same.
