HVAC Fan Control - Defogger Mode not working

Hey guys

I have 03 Cavalier, when I turn the HVAC control to the defogger mode, the air still only blows out of the dash vents instead of the one on top of the dash. When i turn to "leg" only mode, it blows out of both the regular vents and the vents below, but nothing wil make air come out from up top.

The whole dash was swapped over from another 03 by the previous owner, so he might've missed something there.

Is that control knob electronic or cable/mechanical

winter is coming and i need to be able to defog the windsheild lol

btw, it's normal for the a/c to come on automaticly when it's in defogger mode right?

thanks!

the AC is supposed to come on with the defrost.

the positional switch is vacuum if I remember correctly. Sounds to me like you either have a vacuum problem under the dash, or something is obstructing the door that moves to direct the air.

hmmm what might be the best way to go about this, look at all vacuum hoses going into the cabin area, and check the door that direct the air?

would you happen to know where this door is located at?

thanks!

My a/c comes on when I turn on defrost.

I know my Mom's old car did that new, it helped some way or another, so i never worried about it.

Defrost is the rear electrical system. hes talking de-fog setting. called de-fog. does your a/c work on vent settings? might be electrical. what about recirculate mode (the first setting). a/c should kick on on that setting too.

Working on obtainting an M-Class license... ?? Hint: 2 wheels.

sorry i think i might've phrased this badly

A/C works just fine, i was just curious because I didn't know a/c is suppose to come on automaticly on some settings (personally i think that's kind of a waste, but oh well).

my problem is that i can't get it to de-fog even when i turn the knob to de-fog.

the recirculate mode works, the front vents only works, the vents and leg works, but under the 2 defog modes, air only comes out of the front vents, not the dash top vent.

I should really open up the dash again this weekend haha, but if any of you can tell me where the "door" for directing the air is located, that would really help me lots!

thanks

omg that was not fun lol

those little T screws that mount the cable controls to the back of the hvac panel are so much pain to get to lol, i still haven't screwed all of them back yet...

anyways it turns out the cable that control the "flap" was kinked, might have to replace that some times down the road, right now i'm just gonna leave it on de-fog mode for the winter
