Airbag light is on since second week I had the car, it just popped on one day and its been on ever since any help would be greatly appreciated
try takin the neg out of the battery?
I dono if that would help or not
well if you know how to tear your dash out then call alex at black cat customs and ask him for the special heat resistant stuff used to block out dummy lights and order a custom set of guages and have him black out the dummy lights that you have on thats what i did and have had no problems since!!

im sorry but this is the dumbest thing you could offer him. its the ghetto rigg of the century, and i for one cannot stand having to do this. the airbag light on means something isnt working properly and needs to be addressed. especially with it being the AIRBAG-a major safety component with the car.
scott- if i were you i would get it to the local gm dealer immediaty. sure it will probly be expensive... but i dont think any of us can put a price on our lives.

I gotta agree with you 100%. I read the previous response and my jaw hit the floor, LOL. Its not like the light is indicating a shorted out 02 sensor, or is just throwing codes. The airbag light simply means the airbag system has encountered a problem and the system has failed (which means they won't go off in an accident). Blocking out that light will cause you massive s*it. For example, say you get into a serious accident and those airbags don't deploy. Your insurance company will review the car and investigate why the system didn't work. They see you blocked that light out, there is a good chance they will deny your claim and say YOU knew it wasn't working. Yes, it will cost you to have it looked at, but is it not worth it? For all you know, it may be a shorted wire, or a blown fuse (check that one for yourself just incase).
check your fuse first. if thats not it, check your 2 connections. if those are fine take it in to the dealer.

which to wires are you referring to? and where is the location to check them at, thanks
Yeah I want to know where the wires are at that should be checked. My light just came on about 2 weeks ago for no reason what so ever. I went to the dealer but don't have the $185.00 for them to put it on a scanner. I'm thinking I just have a short or lose connection because lately if I hit a pothole or a rough spot in the road my airbag light will go off and come back on after a few seconds. This is leading me to think lose connection. Where are the wires at that I should look for? I was told all the wires for airbag are yellow is this true as well? Keeping an eye out on this post might save me a bunch of money.
In the planning stage for an all American TRD Cavalier.
well...the 2 wires are the connections to the airbags. the passenger one u will need to pull off the dash top. you will see a yellow wire in front of the pass. seat that has yellow connection clips to the airbag. check that it is secure.
the driver airbag you will need to pull off the airbag itself, which is 2 or 3 bolts behind the wheel. simple but tough to see to get to them.
i will also mention that i highly reccommend unplugging your battery and pulling the fuse for the airbags. once that is done, hit the rakes a few times just to make sure all the juice is out of the car. then mess with the bags. also be careful when working with them. you dont want one of them to deploy in your face. that wont feel very good!
hope that helps a little
Man just be real ghetto and put some black electrical tape over it!
But seriously, Joe hit the nail on the head with this one, try sniffing it out yourself CAREFULLY.
I know i've checked all my wiring and it's all connected and I still have my airbag light on. Don't really care if they work or not but I want to get rid of the light in the dash. Has anyone ever opened a cluster and removed a light? Can it be done with F-ing the cluster up?
I wanted to do the same thing because I'd removed the passenger airbag on purpose.
I ended up using electrical tape on the back of my guages :/ it's probably doable but it was beyond my skill level. also pulling the cluster out is a pain due to the fact that the needles will be out of place when you put it all back together. make sure you do it on a full tank of gas so you can just set the gas gauge to full, the other needles are cake. I seem to remember it being an LED behind there but its been several years.
if the light is still on, your SDM module may be shot. do you get water in the pass foot well or under the seat? if so, its most definately a shot SDM.
only other thing to do if you dont wanna fix that is to get an airbag simulator which is basically a resistor. it will turn the light off

Im curious about this
about two months ago im sitting at a red light behind a row of cars..the light turns green and everyone starts to go untill the guy directly infront of me slams on his breaks and being as I just started to accelorate I didnt have the time to slam on my breaks and I rear ended the guy (whoooops
) since then as I started replacing the dash and the windsheild I decided to say f it and opted not to put airbags back in the car (seeing how none of my other cars had airbags and I made it this far) since then that damn light has remained on.. I dont want to wast money on a simulator since theres nothing there anyway I was curious as to how I can make the light go out.. the rest of the wireing for the airbags had been left intact even though nothing is connected.
I thought of pulling the fuse but seems interior items run on the same one, id try to just clip the airbag wire from the fuse panel but seeing im no good at figuring out which wire is which I havent tried yet...
anyone have any ideas?
the ONLY way the light won't be on is if all the bags/module/clock spring are from the same car (100% matching set) and are connected. if one of these pieces are missing you'll have a light on. take cluster appart yank out the bulb if u don't feel like staring at it. Or be smart and just put airbags in it. I'd be dead if it wasn't for airbags in a car. good luck hope this helps

The airbags in my car dont exist since the rearending about two months ago..the module is in the steering wheel (but not connected) due to not being able to find the filler plate for the steering wheel with just the horn.. seeing as every other car I have ever owned never had airbags (one being a 94 geo metro that met a gaurdrail at 80 mph and I walked away without so much as a scratch) and ive been fine and the only one that ever has had one went off at about 10-15 mph rear end I see no need for them (if something should happen, meeh, I had a good run..)
is it possible it will go out if all components are removed (crash sensor, wireing ect ect)
as far as just pulling the light from the cluster goes, when i did the led swap there were only a total of fight sockets on the back of the cluster..2 red (one on the left, one on the right) and the four green.. I was under the impression (and I could be wrong here) that the red socket on the side of the airbag warning lamp controled each warning lamp on that side and if I pulled that bulb none of them would light if there was an issue ?..
I honestly have no clue
hmmm not sure on that of the LED swap
Resurrected J wrote:hmmm not sure on that of the LED swap
Im not sure what you mean by that response or if you fully understand what you responded too (sorry, im not trying to be condescending or pissy)
the LED swap was already done..I swapped the four green sockets (the gauge lights..speed..tach..ect ect.)
im not looking to swap the red sockets do go LED, im just looking to get rid of the airbag warning lamp...

No it i not possible. The ECU/BCM looks for those things and if it does not see them it will throw a code.
Also to correct other miss info. The airbags, and module do not have to be from the same car, but the ECU/BCM must see every part in the system.
