Help choosing leather upholstery color.
Thursday, September 11, 2008 3:31 PM
Hello everyone.

I decided to re-upholster my seats in leather. But I dont know what color to choose. At first I thought white, since my car is white and part of my interior is white but I have never seen white leather seats in a car, has anyone seen it? comments? The other possible color is black, in this case I will re-upholster the floor and the room since they are actually grey (stock) the last option is stock grey.... I gotta go to class now, I will post pics later, for now check my profile.

Thank you!

are you messy. white shows dirty and grime very easily. your nice high dollar seats could look like crap in no time flat.

First of all Im looking just for a classy, clean look inside my car. The outside is white with black windows.

Second thing, yes, I got the idea from sunfire vert that had white seats (how I wish my car was a vert). But, the color was not really white (like snow) was it? I tried to show a pic of this seats to the person in the store and he said they were white/grey... He says I should upholster them gray with a white line in the middle. I do not dig that combination too much, I was looking for a more classy look rather than sporty so I will prefer just one color in the seats. In case I choose white I will also re-upholster the door as the sunfire vert was.

If I upholster them grey, will there be a noticeable improvement? going from cloth to leather???

And about the messy question... No Im not messy (in my car lol), Usually the back seat is not occupied, most of the times is just me going to school and my grilfriend on the weekends and since I will pay, then I will take good care of my new upholstery.

I really think black leather seats look classy but if they will match with my car interior since it would be:
black: seats,
grey: dash and carpet
white: center console, glove compartment, vents etc I painted.

Ive been tempted to change the vents back to grey so the bottom half of the dash is white and the upper half is stock grey.

Finally,

In my profile i have pictures of the interior so u can see what things are already white. If anyone has pics of a white interior can you please show them?

Thanks!

You could do something more subtle, like black leather with white stitching.

Black leather will look good in the grey interior.

This is Jucnbst's interior, his car is red, notice the red stitching that is subtle, yet noticable.

But the background is stock charcoal interior.

If you want something different, but not too "sporty" looking, how about black with the center in a color close to the factory graphite? It would give you a little bit of subtle contrast, but not too bold.

What do you think about grey l eather with white stitches? Im still not sure of wanting to add a third color to the interio (black). I think plain grey will look good but again, it will be the same as stock but leather, too much money to have it "stock"... so maybe add a little touch with the white stitches

more comments?

It wouldnt really be "stock" considing being all leather, but I understand where you are coming from. I believe the black with white stitching or even white with black stiching would look really good. Grey with white stitching wouldnt look too bad I suppose, but im sure the other two options I listed would look better, but thats just me. I do agree with John though that black looks good with the gray interior, and obviously so would gray..

if you want classy do the dash in all one color. or the two tone ideal. dont paint your vents and your glove compartment a diffrent color or it wont look classy it will just look like every other kid who pulled whatever loose piece off his interior to paint.

Yes i understand what u mean but Im 23 so Im looking for a "fun" kind of classy lol

I had one seat done in black leather. If I like it Ill get everything like that if not I will try other designs. My gf told me "definitely not in white"

Right now Im "unpainting" my vents. My door panels Im thinking either white or black leather to match dash or seats.

Thanks for all ur comments I will update pics!!

Funny, I thought we were all a bunch of a$$holes around here who just trash people for asking questions.

Definitely post up a pic of the seat you're having done. Black will look good. If you want to tie it in, re-do the fabric top on the doors in the black leather, and paint the bottoms of the doors, bottom of the console, and dash face in semi-gloss black.

I was thinking about redoing the fabric top of the door in white loŽl to go with the console, glove compartment etc.

MMM sorry but I didnt get the "paint the bottom of the doors" do you mean the plastic around the door that comes in gray? or the thing "carpet like" on the bottom corner of the door? Sorry but english is my second language lol

and also the bottom of the console and the dash face, u mean what I actually have in white in my profile pics??

The guy is taking too long with me seats he promised to have them thursday then I called him today and he said Monday, I got really pissed and told him they should be ready saturday morning. I hate when people promise something and then change their minds, I pay what they ask for when they ask for it so I want them to keep their part of the deal. As soon as I get them I will take pics, it depends on the final result if I get my back seat done also.

Another question, can u tell me how much does it costs in the US to lower ur car? here it costs me around 1,100 dollars I thinkg its too much...

The bottom of the door meaning the plastic below the line that sweeps up to match the separation in your dash. For the dash, yes I meant the parts that are white now. If you paint that black, and the bottom of the door black, it will line up and give you a continuous black area around the interior.

Average good lowering parts cost around $800 total, if you include struts, springs, and mounts (no sense in replacing some of it and not all of it). If you are also paying to have it done, figure around $1000-1100 total. You actually might as well do all the parts especially if you're paying to have it done, because you won't have to pay the shop to disassemble your old struts to reuse anything.

So finally I got my seats back! I got them done in black leather. The batteries on my camera died so I took this pics with my cellphone.

This is how my exterior looks. I would love to lower it, but streets here are a mess. Will lowering it just 2 or 2.5 inches be noticeable? Do I need to change struts or shocks or anything if it is that low?

Comments? Leather is still pending for the door panels.

I think you've just convinced me to do my seats in leather, They look very nice.

And if you go lower at all you'll need new struts. And actually 2-2.5 inch drop is a rather big one.

yeah, try a 1.5' drop or something if you live in a rough street area.

well worth it, plus you can get the cheaper AGX struts, instead of the D-sepecs which you would need for the heavier drop.

but the seats look nice, a lil baggy around the sides, but nice in general.

now get the back to match, and get that drop on there.
