Painting with epoxy
Sunday, September 14, 2008 6:09 PM
I'm sanding out the texture on my middle console, all is going well, but when I took the vinyl off of the lid for my console there was a crack in the middle, as well a chip missing.....what I was wondering was 1. will a plastic epoxy do the job? and 2. If so will Krylon Fusion series adhere to the epoxy?

Thanks for your help,
Jack

I love how your solutions are always going to a junk yard. J bodies are not too famous here in Mexico so its a pain in the ...back to find spare parts I wish shipping from the US was cheaper lol.

By the way, as far as I know you shouldnt have any problem with epoxy but accodiing to my experience the lid on the center console gets rubbed a lot by passengers leanng their arm. So use a clear coat after painting it to protect it. Just my 2 cents

Well the OP is in TX and junkyards should literally be full of them. That's his best option unless he just wants to go through the trouble of fixing the one he has.

The epoxy fixed the crack and i'm just going to wrap it in black vinyl, so I don't have to worry about the paint sticking

well for the majority of people (problaby 90 of the peole on here, the junkyard would be the cheapest and easiest option. heck there are sites you can go to that list parts from junkyards all across the u.s. with prices. my rear trunk filler piece i bought from a junk yard in virginia and i live in indiana.

problaby just depends on wehre you at really. most junkyards around here you can find tons of j parts, and its just allot easier to buy replacement parts and work off of them keeping your original intact, great if your car is a daily driver or your just experimenting. most places around here you can pick up the majority of all your plastic inteor parts for 40-50 bucks tops for all of it.
