i was wondering if the wooden dash kits online will fit a 1999 sunfire gt conv. i noticed it looked like half the pieces wouldn't fit. i was wondering like if its possible to custom order a kit or is it a waste of cash??

Standard Plastic Dash = Matches the Car
Plastic Wood Dash = GM's idea of luxury (ie. in a Caddy), or ironic addition to a J-Body
Real Wood Dash = European idea of luxury (ie. in a Bentley), or a bad joke in a J-Body

And now to actually respond to the original posters' question.

I added a burlwood style dash kit to my 1998 Sunfire SE vert (the interior of which is identical to your GT version) back in 2003. At the time, there was still a reasonably large selection of kits out there for 95-99 Sunfires. There are fewer now, given how long our vehicles have been out of production.

The kit I purchased had a large range of pieces, allowing you to surround the entire instrument panel and even cover the climate controls if you wanted. It's still available, albeit costs about $80 more than what I paid!!

Earlier this summer, I went a step further and complemented the dash kit by pulling out the two rear trim panels and doing a very involved painting project - the recessed sections of each (the ones that surround the rear speakers) were painted in faux finish burlwood to match the dash and front door trim. It wasn't easy; involved lots of panel prep and research/practice into faux finish painting technique, which is a complicated process if you want to do it right (it takes a heck of a lot more finesse than just pointing a HPLV spray gun) but the results were worth it.

I will take pictures later today and post them here tomorrow. We'll then educate some people on what they define as "humorous," ergo, what a wood and Katzin leather treatment of a Jbody interior can do.
