Back window tinting
Tuesday, August 19, 2008 5:35 PM
I was searching through old posts and saw others having issues with those little black dots on the back window. I was curious to see others suggest using black vinyl on the outside to cover the area along with the tint on the inside. Where do I go about finding this vinyl at? I'm taking the car back to the tint guy and have him redo my back window and want to try this black vinyl also for a flawless look.

take it to someone that can tint. any good tinter will have no problems tinting over the dot matrix. if you really want to use some type of vinyl im sure any sign shop will have some you can buy

Mine tint has only been on for about 5 months, but there is no sign of it coming off at all.

I have the black vinyl on the outside of the back window. Tint place said that it would be alot easier and last longer then on the inside. You can hardly notice the vinyl on the window. I will take a photo of it tomorrow and post it up here for you to see.

I have the vinyl on my back window as well......no problems. yes you CAN tint over the dot matrix, but I have seen few that look really good after a short time.

John,

Here are a couple of shots. Please forgive the dirtiness of the windows, the landscapers mowed the grass this morning. Hope this helps you out. I got my vinyl at the tinting place here in Va Beach so i don't know what type it is and who makes it.

I painted the inside of my window with Krylon Fusion, which has held up well. PITA to mask and avoid overspray though. Luckily I went to a mostly black interior later anyways.

I do this for a living, and here's my Professional opinion.

The Best route I feel to go with a J-Body is to Tint up to the Dot matrix and No Further. Then get a Vinyl Strip on the INSIDE to eliminate the Dot Matrix. I have found this to be the cleanest way to install. True you CAN tint over the Matrix, But it does require alot of pre work. And I Personally hate the broken up look of a tinted Matrix.

Here's my Back Window:

Hope that Helps.
