power window issues
Monday, July 21, 2008 10:43 AM
Suddenly, pas side power window stopped going up.(or down)
then each 5 minutes or so when I tried to get it to go up, it went up like 1 inch and stopped...eventually I got it to close.
Switch connections are good...what do I look for next?
thanks!

As McManus stated, It's almost inevitably the motor beginning to fail. I had a similar issue with my driver side and replaced both motors before things got any worse. The job is relatively straightforward but involves one PITA phase, drilling out the four rivets that hold the regulator assembly to the inside of the door. The other thing to know is that once you get the regulator assembly out, before you remove the existing motor from it DEFINITELY drill a hole through the gear and plate above it and install a bolt to secure the spring mechanism. That prevents the latter from snapping like a broken chainsaw when the motor is removed.

Before you go replacing the motor check to make sure it is on the track the correct way. I was just working on a kia last week that was having a similar issue so we ordered a new motor for it and when I took the panel off to look at it I noticed the window had jumped the track due to a loose bolt. I put it back on the track and it worked good as new.

I am not saying that this is the case but it may be something you might want to check out before ordering a new power window motor.
