Im tring get my dash to have that smooth look. Its faster and lighter then me fiberglassing the entire dash. I'm tring the trick of just spraying filler primer on the dash and sand then repeat. For some reason the paint seems to be "pulling apart". I thought maybe it was from the temp outside changing and the dash contracting then relaxing from night to day. I moved it into my basement where its a constant temp and its still doing it even after sanding everything back down and repainting it. anyone know what the hell is going on? Heres some pics:
thats because your spraying on fabrick, that isn't going to work. you need to strip all the padding off if your going to do that and fiverglass. otherwise you either need to get a new dash pad or re cover it in the fabric and color you want.

do yourself a favor and strip the vinyl off first. there will be a few small holes you will have to fill in, but itll turn out 10x better looking than it is now. plus, i could be wrong, but i seem to remember the sunfire dashes being smooth underneath anyway so you shouldnt even have to do anything beyond filling in the few small holes.
orange dash on a blue car?
youlle have to do allot of filling with a sunfire dash. have to build it up around a 1/4" to have the same thickness as stock.
what kind of high build primer are you using? spray can or thru a hvlp gun? i would imagine a spray can primer method taking several cans to build it up thick enough to paint. another thing is if your sanding it and pushing to hard on the dash your lible to cause it to crack, it can be done this way but me personally don't wish to try it, i'll keep to the fiberglass.

i think im just gonna wrap it in the same material im doin the door panels in.
you can either strip the vinyl off or use a paint made for vinyl, english color might have it, or even maybe a hobby or craft store
