I need to use struts in my trunk instead of tension bars because I need the area where the bars go. I've been playing around with the shocks and I've drilled a lot of holes, but I can't find a way to mount them so that they'll open the trunk. The only place that looks like it will work at this point is the strut tower, but obviously I can't just stick a bolt in there. I didn't realize the trunk was so heavy, but the shocks I have should be strong enough.
Has anyone done this, where can I mount them?
Welp, spent the evening drilling more holes, oi.
But it looks like it's gonna work. At the moment it won't open fully and it doesn't pop on it's own but I think with a slight adjustment I can remedy that.
I'll post pictures and measurements if/when I do.
you just started drilling holes??
anyway post pics of it

sure did, not really any other way :\
Holes can be fixed
well ya know the ones out of a vert come with shocks that do jsut that. and they are bolt in replacements. have you tried those?
My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

Uhh.... no?
Didn't know that, that kinda sucks.
Ah, well. I got these working quite well, just need to get stronger brackets made up, that and I've never seen a vert in any of the yards around here anyway.

thats what I was gunna say....lol...
just find a convertible in a yard, remove the trunk hinges, and put them on your car....
simple as that...

well cf trunk may cause issues. im guess ing it flies up to fast right now? those struts arent going to help as they arent adjustable. they will be jsut as fast as teh bars.

not really.....and usually the problem is the bars actually bow the trunk slightly, so it looks weird. the struts dont
forcefully open the trunk, but they do keep it open.
Nope, not at all. In fact, it's a nice, slow, controlled open and a smooth close, I much prefer it to the tension bars actually, just have to get those damn brackets made so they're a little more firm.
Fully opened, These are struts from a daewoo leganza. It was the only smaller car I could find with them where it was actually IN the trunk.
The location on the arm
Location on strut tower and bracket. The bracket is basically a square J shape.
The reason I need stronger ones.
This is fully opened from the outside. No, it's not as much as it was with the tension bars but its enough for me by far.
captions for pics 3 and 4 are backwards. You can see in #3 that the bracket bent back and that the thread came out as a result. I've just got a nut on it for now, not all the way cause it's not actually the right thread.
neat. good work

and for anyone else wanting to know. the trunk hinges from a VERT do NOT work. they need to be modified. they dont line up properly with our stock stuff/.
