cluster compatibility

I have a 96 cav z24. I found a cluster from an 01 with the digital mileage readout (my guess is all the 01+ have that). Is this a direct swap or one of those "you gotta do this, you gotta swap that, you gotta rewire this" kind of thing?

Won't fit physically or electronicly. They are a slightly different shape with different mounting points, they use a 10 pin plug instead of a 24 pin, and the serial data going to them is a completely different protocol. Not going to work. The only thing you can swap is a 96-99, and I am actually not 100% you can swap in a 99.

You would need to swap everything electrical on the car, and then it would work. Dash harness, BCM, ECM, engine harness.

For the cluster to fit, you will need to change out the whole dash, or cut up yours and start glassing.
Swapping the 01 dash will give you the double din head unit opening, though, which opens up options there.
