Vinyl Dye
Monday, May 12, 2008 12:03 PM
Is there such a thing as a vinyl dye for the vinyl fabric ?? Aka ebrake boot and shift boot ?

I know there is vinyl dye (spray) but I'm wondering if there's a type of dye that can be used on the boots to dye ?

there is a vinyl dye in a rattle can that will work on the boots. i can't remember who makes it. DO NOT USE fusion paint because it will not dry. the vinyl and fabric paint will dry to an extent, but will stay tacky on the boots. i painted my steering wheel with the dye and it worked great. i will try to find out who makes it. i got it at summit racing.

not bad, the only worry with a boot is that its got more curves and such, I was lookin for somethin rather to 'soak'/submerge it in. lol

the spray works fine as long as you clean any contaminants on the boot itself. the material will somewaht suck in the dye

i never had any issues when i had mine done a while back. its dye and allot more flexible then paint, the material sucks it up so it can't really be scratched off. as long as its cleaned really well.

i dyed a set of ebrake/shift boots for a sunfire console this past week. usually i recommend SEM vinyl overcoat/dye but for something as small as a boot, you can get away with the cheap duplicolor vinyl dye. walmart or autozone should have that.

once i stop being lazy, i'll get a pic or two of the boots. the duplicolor worked just fine and gave a nice, gloss black look to them.

sorry....forgot about this post. here is a pic i took a few weeks ago. the dye took too the boots very well and you can see how theyve been bent, etc and still no problems.
