1) if your connecting 4 leds that are 3v do you still need a resistor coming off a 12v source?
2) can you run mulitple series 4 leds off 1 12v source? i.e. - running 3 sets of 4 leds in series in the trunk off the trunk light and still keep the trunk light functioning?

Sure you can run a bunch of series sets in parallel. I did a light board to replace the dome light with 6 sets of 4 blue LED's each and it's plenty bright. I was thinking about doing the trunk too but I would use the flux LEDs because they have a great viewing angle.
