Hi everyone,
I just got a 2002 Cavalier (4 Door) and would like to make the interior glow blue. I am opening this up to your own creativeness because I don't really know how I would go about placing lights in my car.
Currently I have 2 blue neons under the driver and front passenger seats to light up the back floor and 2 under the dash to light up the front floor. I am trying to get more but don't know where to place them. Also, I was wondering if you can and how you would wire them all together and put them on a switch.
Lastly, is there a way to make my gauges glow blue. I was thinking replacing the stock bulb with a blue one or putting some blue transparent plastic under the existing gauges.
Any help with all of this would be greatly appreciated. You can reply here or email me.
Thanks,
Tim Burke
Well to make your gauges blue the easiest way is to get a gauge overlay and wire it into your dimmer wire in the steering column. As for wiring neons up, just wire all the positives together and lead that to a toggle switch, lead the other prong on the switch to a 12v source, there are many in your car, battery, which will need an inline fuse, or tap into the fuse panel. Wire grounds together and lead them to a body ground, flip switch.....lights
do you know where I can get a gauge overlay for a 2002 Cav?
already checked ebay. I couldn't find one, thats why I asked about the other ways.
If you wanted to make your interior really glow blue, ditch the neons under the dash, and replace them with cathodes. The things are ridiculous, lol. More light then you can shake a stick at, lol
I did this with my old Grand Prix, only i did red. I just replaced all the factory bulbs (194) with red 194 bulbs. It didnt look bad, but im not gonna say that im doing it again.
Cathodes are great for all round glow and brightness. You can also mount LED's most anywhere. I just recently put some superflux LED's in my air vents. I also have thodes under the seats and some LED strups in the side mirrors. Also, replaced the 194 rearview mirror bulb to red as well as a red dome light.
FYI, I get all my lighing products from Oznium.com. Oznium has the best customer service.
I drive a 4 door sunfire and I got real slick with my interior lighting. I put 5 millimeter LEDs in each of my air vents for a total of 8 - 1 in the four main vents, one in the side window defoggers, and two in the windsheild defogger. I also put 3 LEDs in that part of the passenger and driver door where you can put magazines, etc. It gives a really funky glow. I put 4 LEDs in the steering column and to top off my "Phase 1" of my installation, I put 2 LEDs in the driver and passenger front door lock/handles so it marks where the door locks are at night. I wired all the LEDs up to one of those switches that glows red as well. The hardest part of the installation was taking the dashboard apart and taking the door panels off. I highly recommend you test, re test and re re test your wiring before you put it all back together again
. It'll save you some headache.
Now for my second phase, I'm putting some Cold Cathodes under the driver/passenger seats, cathodes under the passenger/driver side dashboard, and I'll be putting LEDs in the cup holders so when you put water bottles, etc in them, they will glow red as well. I also have some LEDs in my glove box but you can't really see them for obvious reasons :p.
I also recommend Oznium.com for your lighting needs. I live in Canada so the shipping was dirt cheap and they have soooooooo many products to choose from. If you're doing LEDs, I suggest the pre-wired ones unless, of course, you feel like brushing up on your soldering and heat shrink skills!
I would recomend not putting them... but to each his own
