Unless you know the unlock codes, you will have to take it to the dealer and have them unlock the stereo for you and then you should be good to go. If you know the unlock code, i believe you hold the hr and min buttons and it will present you with a prompt to enter three numbers. We did this in my dad's Grand Prix when switching in a Grand Am stereo, I had to get a lube tech at the dealership to look up the code and put it in and its been good since. If they give you a code after, write it down because if you disconnect your battery for 20 mins or so you will likely have to enter it again. Good luck

It's theftlock working it's magic. The radio thinks it's stolen since it doesn't recognize the VIN that it was set to recognize from the old vehicle's computer.

You have to take it to the dealer. You don't have much of a choice. Don't try to put the codes in yourself... you only get so many before the stereo is permanently locked.

It takes 10 mintues, and like $20. It's worth it in my opinion.

If it's the 2001 cav in ur registry, you need to take it to the dealer to have it programmed using a tech II. That is a class II system the vehicle uses that is different from the pre 00 models.

Now I have a question. I just bought a stock cd player for my 2000 Cav off of Ebay. The seller told me that the radio is unlocked, but from what I understand after reading all this is that the radio is going to lock itself no matter what because the VIN isn't going to match?

That's right... it will lock itself. UNLESS it's one of those basic radios that don't have the uplevel RDS feature. Those don't lock.
