Time to take apart dash
Saturday, March 29, 2008 5:39 PM
So apparently my friend was charged 3 hours of labour at his mechanic of choice, to take apart his dash in his '99 Cav...

I just took 45 minutes to tear mine apart... That's INCLUDING the twenty minutes wasted running back and forth between my tool chest in my basement and the car outside.

(Friend only paid $40/hr at the shop, so it kinda evens out.)

I'd like to point out my Hayne's 96-2004 Manual was WORTHLESS. Not a single explanation or picture accurately described what I had to do. I winged it, and yet still took most of it apart in 45 minutes (only have the trim below the steering wheel left. and the glove box.)

How long does it take everyone else?

And yes, my cluster uses LEDs, dammit.

2002 Sunfire -->
- Ractive steering wheel
- ASA 17" EM9 + Nexen N5000 215/45/17 (steelies for winter)
- D-Spec Lowering kit @ 1.4" (issues currently )
- Rockford P250.1 + MTX MZS1004 + Panasonic CQ-C8313U head unit
- Barely legal tint.

Did it today in 20 min, but I have done it before a couple times (repainting my dash from blue to matte black...don't ask, lol). The Hayne's manual was extremely helpful for me, never would've thought about those 2 bolts attached underneath the airbag!

How much of the dash did they take apart? I know I can remove the top cover and the bezel in about 5-10 minutes if I have the tools in hand...

yeah top piece in 15 minutes, whole entire dash back to the fire wall should be around an hour if all the bolts are in.

just swapped my cavy dash for a sunfire one and we had my cavy dash out and in my buddies sunfire in about 45 minutes to an hour, hardest part was getting his wiring back into the dash where his cd player and screen go lol, tools I used were a 9/32 socket with a 1/4" ratchet, 10mm, 13mm, and lots of beer reason I didnt get the sunfire dash in mine is because we are smoothing it all out and taking my time

I can now get the top dash and bezel out in 5 mins or less.
