so my little sister just bought her first car....not a J but lets not get into that....it turns out the couple she bought them from loved
fish...probably because he was a fishermen but anyways....
he had told her before she bought the car that he had put some fish in the trunk, fresh off the boat,(cleaned im assuming), into his car.
On the way back to his house some of the " fluids " leaked out of the whatever they were being carried in onto the carpet in the trunk.

She in the meantime has called me and asked how to get it out, ( the smell ) i thought febreeze at first...and then a few other ideas
but apparently they didnt work....so im turning to you guys.....what will take this smell out?

take the carpet out and sit it on the driveway in the sun and let it dry out. dont let it get wet though. a friend of mine did this with his honda. after that, he sprayed it w/ febreeze, but it in the car and put an air freshener around his rear view. doesnt smell anymore.

When I bought my 02, I realized after purchase that the previous "owners" (Certified used with low mileage, so I am assuming it was leased) were smokers. I cleaned the inside class with streak free cleaner. Used a friend's carpet cleaner and shampooed the rugs. The seats were replaced with custom ones so that helped eliminate the smell as well. Finally I febreezed everything and let the car sit with windows open all day on a breezy dry day. The smell was gone.

I used to work at a car dealership. To get the smoke, pot, and god knows what other smells out, they had an Ionizer machine. Most dealerships should have one of these machines. All you do is turn it on, put it in the machine, close the doors and windows and let it run for 24 hrs. After that, the car should have no smell except it will smell slightly like a swimming pool, but that is much better than fish or what not. I would try and get your hands on one of those machines or see if a dealership will do it for you.

the previous owners of my car both smoked.... and they smoked A LOT..... what I did to get the smell out was 1st.... I steam cleaned the entire appolhstry as best as I could.... its amazing how dark the headliner was because of the smoke..... then I soaked the trunk liners in the automotive free breeze.... I picked up a car ionizer and let it run (however it made the car smell like overheated electronics) so my final step was... I purchased a packaged of 5 "new car smell" air freshners... and cut them up.. spreading the peices throughout the vehicle (under seats etc).... as of now there is very very little smell left....
