Opinion on dash conversion
Saturday, January 26, 2008 6:17 PM
Hello,

I have a 1999 Cavalier Z24 with tan interior, im planning on doing a conversion this summer because i dont like how low the radio is and its making my cupholders useless. Im planning on either getting the dash from 00-04 Cavalier or Sunfire Interior w/ the door panels. What do you guys think?

PS: If i go with the Sunfire interior, what year is the one with oval vents? not the circle ones.

Thanks.

Sunfire had the oval vents from 95-02 then round ones in the 03+ models.

i plan to do the 00+ cavy dash swap but how hard is it to take apart the dash to replace the lower section???? i have been told it could take 5 hrs to swap everything over but will have to deal wit ha crap load of wires. could sumone help put it into perspective for me?

the worst part of the entire swap is the airbag removal but other than that it is fairly simple. there is a lot of wires but luckly they dont travel far when they are off so it makes it easier to find out where they go. make sure you get the metal brace for the 00+ dash or you can cut the section out of the 99 but dont know if that will weaken it. it should only take like 5 hrs or so all depends if you know how everything goes back

There is no possible way that this swap can take 5 hours. I'm not sure what you need to remove the airbags for either.... the only difference is the location of the radio/hvac. We did one here in the shop and it took maybe a hour and a half. All you do is swap locations- and maybe cut the plastic brackets and make new ones for the new radio location....take the dash pad off and then remove the bezel and the rest should be simple....

On the flip side, I have a 2000+ dash if you are still needing one.
