Yesterday I got my Tenzo R steering installed, and I was told that if i get pulled over, i'm screwed since i have no airbag... am i really hosed?
really depends on the state, and the cop. I've been pulled over multiple times with mine, and no one ever said anything.
only issue you may run into is getting an inspection. again, really depends on the place you take it
Cool. No inspections here in florida. The good news is it's like a black/gray Tenzo R wheel, so IMO it looks very sleeper. It doesn't stick out like a yellow wheel or anything.
Question: is my airbag unit worth anything? Is it worth selling?
YES
you can get decent money for each airbag and the SDM module under the pass. seat. I sold my pass airbag and SDM ofr a VERY cheap price..........because I didnt realise they were worth much.
<<state inspector ....... your steering wheel IS leagal...whoever told you it wasnt was ignorant of law and probably told you what he had heard....there is no law REQUIRING you to have an airbag.....airbags are not part of state safety inspections, there is no way for an inspector to know whether or not an air bag is actually installed in a car or where some are even supposed to be....exacmple..back seat and side bags...so it is never required since it is too dificult to regulate and it doesnt actually affect other drivers anyway....they only require a LAP belt...not a shoulder belt
awesome. we don't have inspections in florida, i was just told by another worker at the shop that if i get pulled over i'm screwed, though in my head i'm thinking sooo many people have these on, they can't all be illegal.

certain states have different laws on this.......NY being one of them.
but regardless, the airbag issue is a Federal law, in which certain states also have their own laws
Yea, NY is strict on a lot of things. They hook up your car to a computer and send the info to Albany the capital. You cannot have any Cel's. But in my case, being in the automotive field and getting around you meet ppl who work and do the inspections. They just overlook things for me and when i got my cruiser done last... pulled in, flashed lights, hooked up car, 5 mins later backed out with new sticker.
In Canada a few cops have seen it, some even mentioned how nice it is.
YMMV, but as far as legality goes (and should apply for you as well), the onus is on the officer to prove you disabled the SRS (aka the "airbag"). If you tell him there was a deployment of the airbag or that the OE wheel somehow was damaged by vandalism or such other ways, he has to assume that you are being truthful. Hence why if you get charged with disabling the SRS system, it usually comes along with a bunch of other "street racing" charges (as it is technically an offense in most states), but almost always dropped immediately (well, so long as you dont openly admit in court you cut out the airbag system
).

well i got pulled over, because of a report that a car matching my description was street racing (it really wasn't me this time). The cop saw my steering wheel, and my old steering wheel stuff in the back seat.
Didn't say one word.
Woohoo!
just like joey and cody have said it all depends on who you know i got my g/fs car inspected and the cel just went off on my way there he checked the light hooked it up the comp i was in and out in less than 15 mins i had this same question but as long as your cel dosent come on and being an air bang light the inspector really can't do ne thign about it yes it's a safty thing but there is nothing in the law that says you can fail a car for not having an air bag b/c soo many cars b4 have not had them but as long as you know the ppl and your not throwing a cel code and have the air bag light on you should be fine me myslef if deathly scared of airbags had one blow up on me while i was driving a few yrs back for no apparent reason so for my safty im taking it out. just liek seat belts ever notice how much damage a seatbelt dose to some one when in an accident wich is y i plan to go with a 4 pt harness less stress on certain points in the body and will hold you tighter in the seat so less of a chance of bouncing ur head off the steering wheel or being thrown from the car just my 2 cents
I know in PA there are things needed for inspection, but you cannot be pulled over for and vice versa. It all depends on your local inspection laws.
