hey all im painting my interior from tan to black and i painted the door gloss black and i bumped it against the wall and scratched it. should i clear coat them even though im using a gloss to protect them? and should i use primer?
either way you are going to have problems if you hit stuff with it. Painting the inside isn't like the outside. I sanded mine all down, primed it, painted and cleared and now Ihave flex cracks because it's plastic. About the only thing I can say it don't hit in on anthing.
However, the paint will not stick unless you proped it right. You need to either sand it down with high grit paper and then also wash it with degreaser. Especialy if you ever put anything like "armor all" on it before the color change.

i assume you used rattle can paint....which ya, will tend to crack when flexed on plastics. if you could get someone to use autobody paint, you could add a bit of flex agent to relieve those cracking issues.
also, I would use a good adhesion promoter for plastics also. Bulldog is a good brand. you'll thank me later
No, auto body paint. There was flex in it too but I'm still getting cracks in the back where the arm rests are on the big back side peices. It kinda pisses me off.
ahh, ya, that area gets alot of flex when you rest your arms in there. hell one time a few years back i was cornering real hard and leaning on the doors arm rest, and ended up going right thru the damn arm rest, lol......ripped it right away from the door
i have repainted my sunfire (rip) and just finnished doing exactly what ur doing takin my tan z24 interior and going black
what i found to work is using the vynil & fabric paint (in the rattle can) after a few light coats once i can't see anymore tan spray it with a few light coats of clear i havent had any cracks and havent had to use primer but make shure you rubb the area down extremely well with rubbing alch.or you'll get those nasty fish eye's.
You need to get the interior parts really clean first, i used acetone on my eclipse, some say its a little overboard but it works. Then you need a good adhesion promoter, then 4 thin coats of the selected color, I suggest Duplicolor they have a line of interior paints. Make sure that the paint is even and that you have no missed spots, then you DEFINATLY need a good clear coat, that is what makes it last, 4 thin coats of this and let it cure. The process took me 2 weeks and my car has lasted 5 years and hasnt gotten a scratch
