I read in my repair manual about how to remove/disable the airbags, and it said to disconnect the CPA (Connector Position Assurance) connector from the driver's side, and the passenger's side airbags.
Instead of disconnecting the CPA connectors from each side, i just removed the SIR system's air bag sensor. Its the steel box that is located underneath the passenger's seat, and has a large yellow wiring harness attatched, and one small black ground.
Does removing this disable the air bags?? Im planning on installing an aftermarket steering wheel...

Oh, and i also have my airbags fuse removed from the vehicle, and now the ''Air bags'' light in my dash stays on too.

You removed the SDM module. It will not function without that sliver box there. But its possible they might still deploy with power going to them. PUll the fuse or battery when u plan on removing the air bag. Better safe than sorry. Then re-install the box so at least your passenger side works.
^^^The fuse is STAYING out. I didnt put it back in, even when the car is running. Even after i put the aftermarket wheel in, im still not going to put the fuse back in.

So, basically, i did do it right?? The airbags are completely disabled?
I just wanted to disable the bags so that it would be one less thing i would have to do when i actually am installing the wheel. What i wanted to do instead of disabling the bag then removing it all at once, was i wanted to have the bag already disabled so i could just go ahead and unhook my battery, and proceed with the installation. So that i wouldnt have to wait on the bags to disable themselves.

The SDM controls the bags deployment. However as long as the connector for the bag itself is still connected there is a very remote chance (if some very unprobably circumstances happen) that the bag could go off. Both of mine are unpluged (well one is gone due to no dash) and the SDM has been removed from my car.
So essentially, i need to still remove the CPA's in order to make 100% sure it wont deploy then....
The thing that i was worried about though, was having to wait +an hour after disconnecting the battery before disconnecting anything else. Do i still have to wait for the electricity to drain from the system, or can i just dive right in after 15 mins or so, and just rip everything apart?

if you connected the SDM module back, but left the fuse for the air bags out then yes they "SHouldn't" go off.. But if you don't want anything going off just pull the other bag out and not worry about it. Other wise if you pull the driver side bag, put the fuse back in and the sdm module, the passenger side will still function
with something as potentially dangerous as this, why not just do it the right way? who cares if you have to wait an hour after unhooking the battery? i mean in the end you'll know you did it right and that assurance and peace of mind should be worth an hour of your time.
^^Thats true. Besides, when i undo the steering wheel, im going to have to undo the CPA connectors anyways, so......it doesnt really matter i guess.

as soon as you remove one air bag the system is completely disabled.., even if the fuse is in. i l;ive with the damn airbag light now. buts worth it
If the SDM module is out... there's no way for them to deploy. You don't need to worry about the fuse, the CPA's... nothing. It's good to go.
