im in a problem and im not completly sure how to take the steering wheel cover off so i can check to see if the horns wires are connected...anyone know how to take the cover off without ripping it off and damaging it?
if u feel or look at the back side there are a few i believe their gold colors 8-10 mm bolts but any way remove these bolts/screws and the bag will remove but first i suggest disconnect the battery incase of accidential deployment by grounding.
thank you..i'll do that now and post back if i have any problems after that
just make sure you disconnect the battery, pull the fuse and give it time to drain the electrical system for good measure. it would sure suck to unexpectedly get slapped in the face by the airbag.
so i disabled the SIR (airbag) and im tryin to unscrew/unbolt the steering wheel so i can get to the airbag...the problem is i cant see if its a screw or a bolt, and i have an 03 model does that change anything?
i wanna say the bolt is a 7mm torx
it took me forever to figure out what i was trying to unscrew, lol.....but im pretty sure its a 7mm torx
oh man...7mm well this sucks its pretty hard to get this stupid thing off!
oh man...well i gotta buy this than...umm how sure are you that its a 7mm torx?
Only way to really check is using a mirror, heh. Have you tried that?
strangly enough..no i feel like a freakin idiot.. thanks for the idea
a 7mm torx is impossible to find in the city of cleveland, wtf!
does anyone know where i can find this other than autozone and sears/sears hardware?
walmart try there or homedepot/lowes

should be round 2-3 bucks prob easier to just by a torque set should be round 8-10 for a set. also do u have a harbor freight out there cause i got a set from there for 6 bucks had 3-14 sizes.

03-05 wheels aren't a Torx or a 10mm (which is what I use on the 95-02 bags). They're held on by four metal spring clips... really hard to take apart, unless you've done it before. I practiced on a wrecked car, with the airbag already popped so I knew what I was going for. It's really awkward to get, you have to push the clips to the side at the same time using a screwdriver, then pull the bag forward.
Before you go to all this trouble tho... when you hit the horn, can you hear the relay clicking? It's taped to the steering column harness above the pedals. A little black box, about an inch by half an inch, with four wires to it (two orange, one green, one black). The wires may not actually be visible though, the relay sort of juts out of the wire harness.
If you can hear the relay clicking... then the connection in the airbag is good. You need to look further down the line... fuse.. wiring.. horn itself..

hmm i'll check it out tomorrow and post on whats up with that...than i'll post about the airbag and all that

and i dont know man...because i do see 3 holes on each side of the wheel, the center ones do have a torx but i cant seee whats in the bottom and top holes on each side, is that the clips your talking about?
and dont i either way need to unscrew the torx so i can take off the wheel cover?
Trust me, I've done this lots of times. The torx screws in the middle hold the plastic surround (on the back) to the metal bars that make up the wheel itself. Taking that off won't get the airbag out. It MIGHT help you see the metal clips on the top and bottom (there's two on each side, two on the top and two on the bottom) better, but it won't get the wheel off.
If you want to try my way at it... put a small screwdriver in those other holes, and pry towards the outside of the wheel. It's awful hard to see if you don't know what you're looking for though. Maybe try pulling the bag away a bit, so you can see down the back of it.

not that i wanna call you wrong John, but i can guarantee you on my 03 i needed a torx(thought 7mm, but i know it was small) to get it off.
now i do remember there being the spring loaded inside of the airbag setup, but those had nothing to do with taking my airbag off.

yo are you sure its a 7mm torx, because i went to every freakin store in this city and no one cares a 7mm torx...
does it have another name like t-8 torx/star tool? because thats the smallest size i see

now am i looking for a socket with 7mm torx/star or a wrench?
im not 100% positive its a 7mm, could be an 8mm. not sure, but i know it was a very small one.
if you have harbour freight near you like you said, i know ive bought cheapo sets from there with the whole line-up of torx bits. see if you can find a set there....or try autozone/advanced auto for the single bit. they sell them near me
