well i had a idea about painting the floor of my car, but had a few questions about it
my carpet is nasty and torn up, i replaced it once already and dont really want to again so...
i was gonna remove the carpet, paint the floor and use truck bed liner to make a peramanet floor mats
but, i talked to a guy at the body shop about painting the floor black to match my interior and he claims " if you remove the carpet your floor will rust alot quicker"
would it rust alot quicker without the carpet?
is there any wiring under the carpet that would be in the way?
what can i do to prevent rust if removing the carpet causes it?
i think he dosent know what he is talking about, but i could be wrong

well the show car plan sucked,
and i still want boost so im saving for a supercharger and i started building my spare motor
i cant imagine why it would rust w/o carpet??? that guy must be on crack
but really, under the carpet there is a lot of padding and wires and sound deadening material and its just a generally ugly place. so even if you sprayed some rhino liner in there, its gonna look pretty ugly and unless you were able to make it as thick as the carpet was, there is a good chance that your interior isnt going to fit the same either.
do you know if the wires are long enough to re-locate ?

Also if you remove the carpet and all the padding and everything I would imaging it would be quite a bit louder inside the car.
noise dont bother me i have most of my interior out of the car already and its loud inside
im just getting tired of replacing the carpet
its all torn up, dirty and wont come clean, covered in chemicals from work
so i figure if i used truck bedliner it would be stronger and easy to clean

if chemicals on your feet have destroyed the carpet where are you working man? it takes me about 10 years to go thru carpet. you could always just take a spare pair of shoes to work and then you wouldnt go thru carpets. if the inside is primered and sprayed completley with bedline it shouldnt rust out on you. wiring will be an issue its not like just extending them will help unless you plan on running them all underneath the car your talking about a ton of work that is just going to look bad, be loud as hell not to mention having someone paint it will cost about as much as a couple sets of new carpet. id just change your shoes and stop destroying the carpet sound much easier and cheaper and quieter.

if i could extend the wires and run them under the center counsle
and as for the chemicals on the carpet, its because i work at a chemical plant
if i do all bedliner and no paint i can do it my self

wtf are you getting in your car if you are that nasty... do you not give a @!#$ about your car? i mean... what the f are you thinking. i would shoot somone if they got in my car with muddy shoes, little long more than that.... bring a change of cloths/shoes to work, and take care of your @!#$....
well since its my daily driver i kinda have to do that
and there isnt a way to change because we arent allowed to carry stuff in or out due to security issues
so i can only do so much

so keep your shoes in your car and when you're done work, pull them out, put them on... then get in the car. Bring a bag or something to keep your work boots or whatever in. Pretty simple and not so drastic.
either way the carpet has to come out
all i was trying to find out was if the guy at the body shop was full of it
and after asking around and on here the floor isnt going to rust if i take it out so its coming out and im trying something different

it's all good, do what you please, it's your car brother. Just giving you a suggestion.... you could always spray the bedliner and put carpet in over top that! and THEN change your shoes... it's fool proof lol good luck brother
hope it works out for ya
why would i put carpet on top of the bedliner material?

maybe you could make some metal floormats. my buddy made some for his car out of galvanized diamond plating (the REAL stuff...not this thin crap most companies use to make floor mats with) since he worked construction and was trashing his carpets too. it seemed to work out well for him.
just tryin to think of alternatives for you.....
either way it comes down to replacing the carpet or try it

I don't mean to sound like a jerk but I think it would look horrible. The bare floors are just not nice looking at all....
Basically if I were you I wouldn't. Just replace your carpet and by a lot of floor mats to use.

If you could re-route the wires under the center console or even along the sides where the plasic piece is that holds in the carpet and as long as you give it a fairly good coating of the bedliner then you should be OK. My advice would be to do a few layers and then start spraying the low areas to build them up and make it all somewhat smooth. As stated previously, you shouldn't have a problem with rust as long as you clean and dry the metal before applying the liner.

what do you work at a nuclear power plant? metal cant oxidize and rust if its not exposed and is clean and dry when cover
Now since it's winter I just bring in a second pair of shoes and leave them in the car. When I come in from the weather I change them and put the dirty ones in a plastic bag. Bada, Bing Bada Boom, 6 year old car with mint carpet.
