Wednesday, November 07, 2007 1:55 PM
This is durring...

And this is after.

*NOTE* dont mind the missing HVAC dial, and the painted one, I was trying something out and it didn't work right. Oh well *END NOTE*
Sorry for the crappy pics, the sun was setting and all I had was my cell phone.
I'm going to paint the rest of the center console tomorrow, the mirror covers on the sun visors, and the glove compartment door and the whole under side.. if I can get it off.

I dont know if you read what I said or not under the pictures, I'm going to finish up tomorrow.
It got cold and late. I also wanted to see what it would look like first.

And I didn't lose my dials, they just wern't in the pictures(trying a different kind of paint on them)

Yeah looks tacky, but to each his own. I don't think painting interior looks good unless most everything has something done to it.

I might be crazy so don't mind me if I am but is that shift knob on backwards? usually i see the pointed ones facing forward. It looks good so far, but I would leave the rest of the centre console black for contrast. If you kept it black and blue like that it would look sick with some black and blue racing seats too. I think I prefer the coloured LEDs with the clear HVAC rather than the painted HVAC knobs but to each their own. Now if only I could get off my ass and start changing around my car haha but I hear you on it being too cold to work haha I'm in Ontario and there was snow on the cars this morning...

i took mine to a local light bulb mfg. and had them paint my knobs with some special bulb paint they use, turned out awesome and it has lasted a long time and hasn't chipped, peeled or faded

Looks really tacky, but its your car. Also your probably going to kick yourself for painting the defog vent, that is going to reflect like crazy in your windshield, and unless you never use your armrest or you used some really good paint I give that a couple months before it is worn off and your elbow is blue.

Sorry.

well hopefully you finish it up by painting the majority of the interior because doing whatever piece you can pull off looks tacky

Well my goal is to paint all the darker colors blue, and keep the tan.
I know everyone hates the tan, but I like the blue/tan together.
So that leaves...
*Center console(still have 2 more pieces to paint)
*Door handle/lock piece
*Gauge cover inside cluster
*Little ring around the vent on passenger side

And as soon as I find a tan/light brown that matches the stock tan(or VERY close to it)
I'm going to paint the middle and driver vents and steering colum.

As for the dash end pieces.. I should of left them stock. Oh well.
And I'm either going to paint the doors either all blue(lower half) or just the speaker opening.
I'm not sure yet, I saw a pic of the door painted all one color, and one just with the speaker opening painted.

Eh.. I'm going to try and choose my words carefully.

1. In my opinion, a darker shade of blue would've looked better with the tan that you want to keep.
2. It seems like this was an impulse thing, it would've looked a lot cleaner if you had sanded all the texture down on pieces you wanted to paint.
3. I know you said you weren't finished, and I see you will be painting more.. it just doesn't flow.. it's like previously mentioned, you picked pieces and painted. I know you were saying you're going to paint the darker pieces from the stock interior, but that fuse cover, should've been tan.. and that alone throws the whole front of the car off.

This is all in my opinion, if you don't agree.. that's fine. After all, you're driving it.. not me. Good luck with the rest of it though. Wouldn't mind seeing pictures of it completed.

if thats what you want to do, i suggest removing the top of the dash and painting the whole thing blue so it matches the center vent. the fuse door should stay tan. the gauge bezel is good blue. take the door panels and paint the top half of them blue. do the top half of the center console blue. that will atleast give you a uniform theme and will look some what good

Well To each their own.

Personally, I would have sanded the whole thing down, painted it with duplicolor or a spray gun with auto paint, and clear coated them. Blue spray is tacky IMO, but you did paint it well, i can see any runs or missed spots.

I only have my bezel painted metallic black, and I love it sooooo much more than stock! I drove a stock 2003 J yesterday, and the lame dash bezel made me sad. I plan to do the whole top of the center console, the bottom hald of the door pannels, and maybe something else. I just need some to work on as sanding takes a long time!

Good luck with the rest of it.
