The tint on my Sunfire has been on there for about 7 years now. Although the car's been stored for the past 2-3 years now, the tint is still relatively purple and begging to be removed.
My buddy said that on his Civic, if you remove an applied tint you take off the static-applied defrost lines as well. Just wondering who all's taken tint off their 2200 back window with defroster and how they've made out. I would imagine that with it heated up and Windex'd the glue will break down easily, but I'm not sure (totally) what to expect.
I drive the car in the fall and sometimes on humid days, so I do care about saving the defroster lines if possible. Thanks, guys!!
PS: I did a search and there's a lot of "probably's" and "should be's"
i was lucky enough to be able to have my rear window out of the car when i took mine off, but with it in the car, it will be tough.
if you use a razor blade at all, it will take off the rear defrost lines. i was able to lay mine in the sun, and soak it with amonia, and wipe off all the excess adhesive. took alot of time and effort, but in the car could be tough

well, in my experience i was ok will just scraping all of it off tiny piece by tiny piece. as long as you DO NOT hit the lines with the razor blade you should be just fine.
IMO, honestly... take it to a professional tinting source, it gets expensive (ive seen $150) to strip the back window down, but its SOOO worth it in the long run. you'll know what i mean once you've thrown a few fists into the nearest wall because you lack the patience envolved with scaping off tiny bits of tint for hours at a time
^^at least in my experience, it isnt the tint thats tough to get off, its the layer of glue/film thats left after you pull off the actual tint. and if you leave it on there, dust will stick to it resulting in a very dirty, un-cleanable window

heers a question. ive had tint on my back window for less than a year. its starting to peel off he dot matrix at the top. theres creases and theres a giant bubble going through the middle of the window along one of the defrost lines cause the tinter (which i was told was the best) did the back window in 2 pieces. should i take it back and have him fixe the dot matrix part (ill have him put vynil in place of it) or should i have him redo the whole window then do the dot matrix in the Vynil. im willing to pay the extra for the vynil. but im not gonna pay for the tint or labor. so what should i do?? take it back or leave it.
PS sorry for threadjacking. just thought i would throw this out there instead of starting a diff thread.

The matrix caused problems for the guy who did my window too. I got fed up and just painted that part of the window black from the inside. Vinyl works too. You'd want to have something done about it though, since it's not going to get any better. Chances are that since it's been less that a year, the tint should still peel off without much trouble -- especially since it sounds like it wasn't well-prepped or bonded anyways.

I've seen this done once. The lady put the car in the sun to heat up the glass then used a steamer to remove the tint.
wojo-any good tint place should do the back window in one big piece. its much more professional. unless of course you have a weird contoured back window-ie a freakn beretta.
either way, i just dont get it. IMO its hit or miss with the dot matrix, the same place that tinted my white car tinted my black car, but the black car's dot matrix looks MINT and the white's is... eh... less than perfect lol. i think im gonna put a black vinal banner accross the top-back and be done with it.
idk what that stuff is exactly, but ive tried scraping it off, hell ive even used sandpaper to try and remove it and no dice. i want to try one..but i thought a grinder might be a TAD to agressive for glass tho lol
