Hey all -- Im not sure where to post this, so its going here. If it needs to be moved, please put it where its supposed to go.
Anywho. I might be purchasing a hood later on this week or next. Im going to drive out, inspect the hood, and purchase if I like what I see. Im only able to drive my cavalier, as the only truck I have access too (catering van from work) is going to the shop for an alternator and some other stuff.
Will I be able to fit the hood inside my car in any configuration? Id like to not have to ship it or anything, as its so close its not worth it. And I want to throw it on the car before I go on a college visit in a few weeks, want to show my friends the updated product.
Driving without the stock hood on is not an option, as I dont wanna cause any problems, engine, law, anything. I might be able to coax my brother into coming with me and driving his impala, but thats a near impossibility.
Anyone ever transport a hood in their J before? How should I do this?
thanks for the help!
the guy that purchased my ss hood about 3 years ago drove to my house with his car, we put the ss hood on his car and he then folded his stock hood about 4 times and threw it in his car.
other than doing that or driving with no hood, a hood will not fit in a j.
Rats, Looks like I gotta coax my brother into driving, Im sure itll fit in his car, its a boat.
thanks guys!
drive there with no hood, bolt on new hodd and drive home....thats how me and cheeter did it
Built Not Bought
^^Thats not a bad Idea, But I dont want there to be any problems, I mean im pretty sure Im going to buy it, but im not 100% sure yet. Im also unsure of the laws on not having a hood in IL.... I just dont feel comfortable doing it, I wish I could, itd be easier.
I think im just going to borrow my gf's explorer and fit it in the back. Seems the easiest route to me, and its failsafe and stuff.
thanks for the advice tho, I respect your work a TON. Nice car man
How far is it? Hell, no hoods are illegal here in CO, but Ive seen it at least 3 times, including once on the interstate...and thats not even counting my trip where I tried driving home with a hood on my car!
Its only about 30 mins drive, but its on an interstate as well.... im already cleared to drive an explorer for the day, so its no biggie. This way, im sure Ill have no issues.
lol now the truck will break down or something, just so life can screw with me a little more
89sunbird....hood pins might look ricey, but they do serve a purpose.
Matt...good luck with the explorer, if that falls through, just do the no hood thing, bring the correct wrench with you, and if you get pulled over for some reason, just tell the cop that your going to a friends house to put the hood on the car, and he was re-painting it for you. I highley doubt that any cops would actually give you a hard time, they tend to be more pickey with fenders and bumper height on trucks.
Good luck man, and post some pics of the new hood on the car.
Weebel, I did have pins on it after that until I got another hood...that car is long gone now, though...
Im in illinois and i drove from Dixon, IL to cordova, IL, to IA to Minnesota and back home all the way witrhout a hood and i pinned mine down when i got it.
It is illegal but if i got stopped i was gonna tell them what was going on.
drive hoodless. if you get stopped tell the officer that your heading to get a hood and he's free to tag along if he doesn't believe you.

I drove from IL to MO to drop off my c/f hood at a buddies body shop. just took it off and made sure to get the hood latch and bolts with me. and drove home (a good hour or so) without a hood. Never have a problem. just make sure it is got going to rain.

I've never had any problems driving around without a hood. I've done it pretty reugularly lately. Possitive, BOV is loud as hell. But the windresistance you have without a hood is major. Engine temps stay real cool though.

+1 driving hoodless. I drove to Dallas from here like that, little over 4 hours
heck, i drove my old 99 sunfire without fenders, hood, front bumper for days and the cops never hassled me about it. i knew one of them and told him what was going on when i saw him at a parts store. good times...
