B&M Shifter Size
Tuesday, August 14, 2007 11:17 PM
Does anyone know how much shorter the B&M shifter is compared to stock. I am looking at getting a custom made boot and I need to know the height difference.

And would anyone recommend redlinegoods.com?

Thanks

Alot! But if your thinking about cutting your shifter its not recommended...........

You wont regret a B&M though........I hate to have to drive my cavalier with the stock shifter after driving my sunfire with the B&M........

Wow, some really good answers....

I already have the B&M shifter I just need to know the difference in height (specifically from the base of the boot to where the top of the boot goes). You say roughly 2/3s how much do you think that is?

I shortened my stock shifter by about 2 and a half inches. No problems yet.

I am sorry but that was irrelevant to the question I asked.

All I want to know is how much shorter then stock is the B&M shifter. I don't care how short you cut yours, or how much you spent on them or if you recommend it.

ok, fine ill repeat myself, and throw in the attitude you seem to think your own thread needs...

ABOUT TWO THIRDS THE HEIGHT OF THE STOCK SHIFTER.

AND, THE STOCK GOD DAMN BOOT FITS FINE, SO YOU DON'T NEED SOME SUPER SCIENTIFIC PRECISE MEASUREMENT ON HOW MANY MILIMETERS SHORTER IT IS. BUY A BOOT, MAKE A BOOT, IT DOESN'T NEED TO BE EXACT IT'S A FLEXIBLE PIECE OF GOD DAMN FABRIC

Hey, all I was looking for was an answer to my question. Your answered it some what, I heard you the first time, and I thank you for that. I never said I needed the exact measure of the difference, a rough idea would be good (I dont have the stock shifter so there is no way for me to know the measurement). Its just that if and when I go get a custom boot made I rather have it fit a little better then what the stock does at the moment.

I am sorry if you felt that I put a little attitude into the thread but I was only looking for an answer not some other discussion about short shifters.

alright sorry for my outburst as well. but like I said, its about 2/3 the height of the stocker. it is quite a bit lower, but i definately do not dare say half, i know its a little taller than half. so shaving it down an inch or so from the stock height of the boot, might be all you wanna do. you want it to still have some give to it for going through the gears

If I rememberr when I measured my sisters stock and my B&M the difference was between 1.5 and 1.75 inches. I had Redlinegoods.com make my boot one inch shorter, and it looks pretty good. Any shorter and you may have a really tough time stretching the bottom around the plastic retainer ring. And when you have it made, don't skimp on the material between the shifter itself and the front and back of the ring. You can skimp more on the sides than you can the front and back.

So if I got them to make it 1 to 1.25 inches shorter then stock I should be fine?
Greg Z would you recommend redlinegoods.com and do you have a photo of the boot?

Thanks

they did a pretty good job, they have some pics on thier website. 60 bucks for the e-brake and shift boot, or 40 a piece ordered separate.
