you can either do what the above poster mentioned, or you can go to any Wal-Mart and look for Dupli-Color Vinyl and Fabric Dye in the color you want.

yeah but I want to match the color with the dash paint I have. Dupli-color don't make that color.

I'd recommend pulling the vinyl off, and doing a layer or two of fiberglass. You can just sand and fill it as it is, but I personally don't like the look of it, because it's noticeably thinner once you pull the vinyl and padding off. I think a layer or two of fiberglass with nice rounded edges would look better.

ok so lemme get this straight you think leaving the viynl on and glassing over that would be best?

No, I suggest removing the vinyl. The glassing is to build back to the thickness it had with the vinyl.

Yes, you can do that. I've seen plenty done that way. It's just my opinion, but I think they look too thin and flimsy like that. I suggested a couple of layers of glass to bring it back to a similar thickness it had with the padded vinyl on it, and round the edges off for a more finished look. You can go either way, it's all up to you.

wondering if the older consoles are diffrent then the 01 and up. cause mine is rounded on the edges and solid. and the vynal was stretched so thin theres not much diffrence at all. two layers of fiberglass then filler would make mine thicker then what it was with vynal.

Yes, they are. The 95-99 ones are really thin without the vinyl on them. Also, the fires are different as well. I didn't think to check what year his car was. It's an 03 Cav, which has different consoles than the 95-99
