I have an 02 z24 5-speed and whenever I go to shift the shift boot pops right out. Anyone else have this problem. I had it down with zipties for a while but those didn't last. All the clips are good and it fits in good but still pops out all the time......
you can always glue the thing to the console with Liquid Nails or Automotive Goo. If you choose that route, go easy on it in case you end up replacing the boot in the future.
So is the whole pastic frame popping out?
If so you might want to check it out very closely under good lights and see if maybe the plastic cracked. Same problem happened to me after i installed my B&M Short shifter i shaved away some of the plastic to make room for the reverse prevention mechanism (I don't think i needed to do so) but anyway the plastic was cracked and would slip out in the same manner.
If thats not it then you might want to look at the little plastic clips which hold it secure to the center console, it is possible they may have warn down causing the thing to slip out, when you shift.
Hope this helps some.
had a similar problem after running it down the track a few times the clips fractured and were weak so when i hit third gear it popped so after it pissed me off i put in my short throw and put in a new cover .
I had the same problem here. One day I shifted into fifth and it popped out because one of the clips broke. Then another clip broke shifting a bit hard into third, I'd glue it down, but I can't until I get my short throw, it pops out on me every time I shift into any gear.
I screwed my leather one down (with small screws) into the plastic under the cover.
Because STOCK is boring...
Do you have a aftermarket boot on it? If so then the boot might be keeping it from clipping in all the way. I had this problem.
