The first and less important question is. Whats up with the 180mph speedo's i'm seeing on the org, are these after market, or are these just the Canadian guys and there actually 180 kmh speedo's.
Also, I can't fiqure out what the THEFT light is for (in the gauge cluster) in my 97 sunfire. The owners manual doesn't really tell me anything, and the car doesn't have an alarm. What is this and how does it work? Thanx to anyone that explains this to me, everytime I see that theft light come on when I start the car, I wonder what it's for.
^^they are 140MPH speedos.....basically a canadian speedo with a new US overlay upto 140, and recalibrated.

actually they aren't "re-calibrated" CDN speedos go up to 140mph and the US are 110mph. Don't ask why, thats just how it is.
I have a 140
When you get them from Alex at Blackcat, what he means by "re-calibrate" is that he switches the KMH/MPH layout and tests to make sure that they are still accurate seeing as how they don't normally come that way.
Gotta go to 140 if you got boost. It's a given right?

haha, I did mine for pure looks. Either way even though the CDN gauges go to 140mph the governor is still at 108 on our cars CDN or US. So I do find it strange as to why GM would put them into the Canadian models.
im in ontario, and ive got glow gauges in MPH, so they go to 140, but my stock gauges did too.
nevermind, i just actually looked, my canadian gauges only go to 110.
RobMan, where'd you get that gauge setup? Looks pretty sweet.

Your stock ones? Where they KPH/MPH or MPH/KPH gauges. Intresting... dunno I saw a stock '03 cluster from a Canadian (KPH/MPH setup) Sunfire go up to 240 kph with the mph tick ending at 140.

Had Alex at BlackCatCustom make them for me.
BlackCatCustom
my gauge goes up to 220km and she governs at 170km
110mph speedo and governor kicks in at 107mph in the US (stock) I know 85mph speedo's where federally mandated back in the 80's, thats why my dad's 86 5.0 Mustang has a 85mph speedo, but the car will do almost 150mph.
So anyone understand that THEFT thing? My understanding is that if the car "senses" that its been broken into, it won't start (even with the key), does this mean if someone steals my stereo, I'll be stranded because I won't be able to start my car, or what? This really doesn't make sense, why not just have a car alarm.
The Theft light illuminates after a motor swap, a BCM change, an ignition lock change, so on and so forth. Its a Passlock thing, has absolutely nothing to do with the radio. The Theft light also has nothing to do with preventing vandalism or outright towing the car away either. For that you WOULD need an alarm. BTW, the reset procedure for Passlock II in our cars is to get in, shut the door, get comfortable, stick the key in, attempt to start vehicle, it will start then die, Theft light illuminates, leave key alone for 10 minutes and do not open either door (hence the get comfortable part), Theft light should go out at that time, shut key off, start vehicle.

Don't see that particular design anywhere, however it'd probably look nice with a white face.

That design isn't there because I had Alex custom make them for me. I took his "140" conversion and had him re-work it a bit. Cost a little more, but I like them. He will do anything you want. Just do some sketches and stuff and he'll work it all out. I wanted GXP inspired gauges so waa laa....
Cool. I'm a fan of the "less tiny hash marks between the major markings on the gauges" look that you've got.

Thanx. I'de like to have 140mph white face gauges in my sunfire, maybee I'll check that out when it comes time. As far as the theft thing, I have had the motor replaced, but the car runs forever and the light goes out. I still don't understand the purpose of the system, but I guess its just another one of GM's stupid ideas to help keep chop shops away, (but doesn't actually work), At least thats what I'm gathering.
