Like the title says. The latch mechanism snapped that's connected to the glove box door handle. It was staying in for a long time with the latch partially broken. Now the entire mechanism has broken away, and I'm using velco taped to the door edges to keep it closed.
Can the handle be replaced, or will I have to replace the box door? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
^x2, or trip to the dealer, the door is like 30 bucks new I think, had to replace mine a few years ago same problem (can't stuff 3 cd wallets in there, hmmm...)
make a quick trip to the junkers...easy fix.
I have another one or two glove box's at home I'd ship to you, but it's for a sunfire
yup, only fix is to get an entirely new door.
'so much torque, the glove box latch twisted off the line'
not necessarily, i have had to do this many times. you can take the inner door panel off of the glove compartment and remove the two screws that hold the mechanism to the door. after that it is as simple as getting a new mechanism from a salvage yard and install in reverse order.
the mechanism is small enough to slip in a pocket at the yard as well, so virtually there is no cost to repair. just the fact knowing that you have just stolen from a salvage yard,
ahh. i tried crazy glue when mine broke but that didnt work for long. i tried the junk yard too but all the cavys had the glove box missing (i guess this is a common problem). just go the the dealership and order a new one. i dont remember the exact price but under 40 cnd.
Yup, you can replace the mechanism, and not the entire door. I confirmed this with my parts guy this week. I am waiting for the handle/spring piston to arrive. Its about time too; Velcro won't hold more than a day or two, and if its hot outside..........fuggetaboutit!!!!!
