So I was working the drive-thru at the local burger joint (a job I'm sure you all aspire to), and I'm looking into the interior of a new-ish Malibu and take a look at the leather-wrapped shift knob. It looks like the same knob used on the 2002+ automatic Cavaliers, only leather, and now I want one. My car is a 2000, and still has the lame factory "dildo" shifter. If anyone has the part number for this (just the knob, I don't need the shifter), I'd love to order one off GMPartsDirect.

won't work. The part you grab is molded around a plastic inner piece that is pressed onto the shifter shaft on the '00+ 5speed equipped cars. There are two ways to remove that knob, yank with all your might and end up destryoing the knob and then running a die around the end of the shaft for threads, or getting a knob with a setscrew, or cut the knob off with a sharp object into many small pieces (like I did to install my B&M ftw) also destroying the knob. either way, the knob ends up deader'n'a'doornail. I would bet a nickel the Malibu knob is pressed on the same way.

My bad, missed the "automatic" in his first post. D'OH!
The local junkyard doesn't have a Malibu
