Ok, here is a thought. On the cluster, there is an outer clear plastic piece. What if you tinted it with colored tint

I took my gauge cluster apart and used transucent self adhesive vynil to change the color of cluster. I cut it to the shape of the black part that has the markings on it then instaled it behind the black peice with the marking. Getting it to contour to the plastic cover would be nearly impossible. Here are some pics.
and this way it still looks stock during the day (minus the red needles)

i really like that. i was thinking of doing something along those lines with my 05. did you just paint the needles?
