Removing sound deadener???
Thursday, March 29, 2007 10:32 PM
Hey, I was wondering what's the easiest way to remove that nice stuff!!! I installed B-Quiet almost everywhere inside a while back and now I need to remove some!!! Anyone know a good way?? I tried to just pull it and it's a pita... When I'm done removing it, what do I use to clean the remaining stuff (tar or whatever it is)??? Thanks!!!!

I thought about putting some gas and setting up on fire, but I would need to check if my insurances covers it!!!

Heat gun or hair dryer to heat it up, so you can pull it up - (it's gonna get messy - wear gloves!)
use goo-gone to get the residue, you can also use laquer thinner for the residue, it doesn't work as well as the goo-gone

A blow torch actually works the best. I have tried a heat gun, hair dryer, and even adhesive remover. Nothing worked better than a blow torch, just note that your paint is right under there and might get a little messed up if you arnt careful, I didnt have any problems with the paint but if you hole it there for too long I am sure you know what will happen. make sure you have plenty of plastic "putty knives" on hand. Or get some of the bondo applicators and they should work the same, just use them to scrape off the goo instead of put it on.

This reply wins, it's the best way to remove that tar.

just curious, but why do you need to remove it? and how clean do you need it to look?

if cleanliness isnt a super big factor, grab an angled die grinder with some roloc discs and grind it off....thats what i had to do when we were welding in my trunk area.

trying everything else just doesnt work well and takes years, lol

I too would like to know why you need to remove it as I am about to install some B-Quiet in mine. Have you had some problem with it?
