Does anyone have a good power lock install? I just bought an aftermarket kit and I have no idea where to even start installing. My car did not previously have power locks so I have to start fresh. Can anyone help? Im trying to get it done this week

its not brain surgery. took me about 2 hours.
install actuators on both doors run wires. then find a 12v source and a good ground. i just taped into the acc power. check your fuse box you will see it.
its not that easy. Where do i install actuators? How do they hook up to the locks? I got a kit and it has two actuators, two rods and these long metal things with holes in them. Then I got the keyless entry system as well. This is a keyless entry system. There are no buttons inside the car to lock or unlock the car.

also when you install... you cant do the up and down thing like the instructions say. if my car was here id take pics... but its not here... so ill wait till tomorrow to show you how mine are.
Sorry if the pictures are big. this is the Autoloc Kit with keyless entry. Probably same thing you got off ebay. To bend the rods i just took a pair of pliers and bent at 90* angles and it worked good as you can see. I also ended up JB welding the connector from the stock rod to the after market one beucase mine kept coming loose. I mounted the control box and keylessbox under the drivers side dash, up under it. Pain to reach but it can be done. Also you have to extend the wiring to reach the pass side door. I think i added like 2-3 feet. Its as easy as cuttin the end of each wire off, leavin enough to reconnect to later, add enough wire to reach and reconnect the ends with the connectors. also its nice to add a trunk popper too like i did.
I'm also sellin my kit since im shavin my doors
if anyone wants it. just gotta switch rods when you get it and all wiring is extended.
wow dude. thats fantastic. thanks for the pictures and everything. Your awesome.

Yeah man you are awesome. I'm installing my AutoLoc right now. I think I have the bends all wrong.
I had everything wired up and working, except when I lock the drivers door the passanger wouldn't lock. It will unlock but won't lock. Any suggestions?
Also I have to rewire everything and extend th wires b/c I rolled the window down afterward...and yeah you prolly guess what happened.........wires all came apart.
yea i had that happen to me alot with it. I guess it becuase the mount that ur use for the 2 rods isn't catchin and it gets messed up. Take the panels back off and reset where the mount is on the rods that might help.
Yeah I just stopped a Wal-mart on the way home and got some more wire to extend them a lil. I most likely won't get into until Thurs or Fri.

Same problem I am having except opposite doors. My driver's side will lock and unlock the passenger's side. The passenger's side will only lock the driver's side though. If you figure something out please let me know.
Yeah man I think that you should swap the actuators b/c I think the drivers side is suppose to be the one that locks and unlocks. I don't think the passanger side was meant to do that.

so the passenger's side isn't supposed to be able to unlock the driver's side?
should have went with a spal kit. cause mine does both, drivers side locks and unlocks passengers and vice versa.
the install of the locks went so smooth with those pictures. I am just waiting to wire everything. Got any tips on that? It looks interesting

You might have to extend the wires. Watch the window guides!!!!
That's y I have to extend the wires....roll the window down and pull all the wires apart.
haha good to know. Thats why i started the install with the windows down. plus its easier to put the door back together

To run wires its easier to pull the seats out and lay on the floor so you can see up under the dash easier and can move around. Just find a good spot to mount the brains, connect the wireing and run them to each door. Depending on where you mount the brains you have to extend the wiring. I mounted my stuff under the drivers side dash, therefor i had to extend the wiring about 3 -4 feet to reach the pass. side door. Easiest way i found to get the wiring through the door jambs is to pop out the rubber neck thing and feed the wiring through it then pop the ends back in. And like gangstachicken(?) said make sure your wires aren't in the way of the window. And if you have it, heat shrink the connectors too. I had water get in to the pass side door and it screwed it up till i dried out.
Yeah the rubber thing for the door was a bitch. I had to tape all the wires to a coat hanger and push them through. Then I messed something up and had to redo it.
I still haven't finished this, right now I'm in the process of getting z kit so......yeah. Maybe one of these weekends I'll tear the doors off again.
Ok this thing is really pisses me off. I tried both of the locks and they will only unlock. They won't lock. Does anyone have any ideas????
do u have everything wired up right? heres a quick drawing i drew up
Alright only things i can think of is this
A: you dont have the rods bent right. It takes less power to unlock then it does to lock. so the rods might be bendin just enough to not allow the solenoid to put enough pressure on the rod to lock the doors.
B: This is what i always did when one of my doors started to not lock, unlock, do nothing at all. Take the connector off the stock rod. Make sure the door is unlocked and the Selenoid is in the unlocked postion. then reconnect them and make sure the set screws are in aw tight as humanly possible.
Duy Tang- I doubt he has them wirerd wrong unless hes color blind. (if you are im sorry). The kit's wires are all color coded and already have the connects on them jsut a matter of extending them and runnin the wires and connecting them.
