sunroof needs fixing
Saturday, October 21, 2006 4:25 PM
i have an 03 cavy and the sunroof is not lined up on both tracks (did that make since). the passenger side is about 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch behind the driver side. a friend of mine looked at it with me and niether one of us has done anything with sunroofs before, but we came to the conclusion that i prolly need to take the headliner out and take the sunroof bracket thingy out that way and prolly rebuild it or something. what do u guys say. i need info.

thanks everyone

open it all the way and check the tracks. there could be something jammed in the track that will prevent one side from closing all the way.

ok you might have to pull the sunroof out. they work on a cable system. so one of the cables could be binding or catching on something. aside from that im not sure.

I just found this diagram on Autozone that shows how to retime your gear on the motor. I am going to try and fix mine tommorow. I think I have pieced the procedure together.

1. remove visors and headliner.
2. remove 3 torx screws from motor and let it hang down away from the cable drive.
3. position sunrrof glass so it is level and not in a bind (glass should close easily since no motor is present on the drive cables)
4. retime the gear as shown in the pic.

5. install 3 torx screws and replace headline and visors.
6. be sure to lube channels with white lithium grease.

Listen to me i just fixed my little sisters sunroof on her cavy. same prob. take down the head liner in the front undo the 3 bolts holding the motor in and push your sunroof back to where its even. then bolt the motor back up. bam there ya go its done. that was the easyist way i found after trying to fix it for over an hour i finally just took the head linner down and pulled the motor and fixed it that way.

unless urs turns out to be like mine, i ended up doing the same, and when trying to push it back in wouldnt budge

last owner got something jammed in the worm gears, and well i wasnt strong enough to push it back my self

so what i ended up doing was loading her up with wd40 and totally closing the motor, then id hold it up in place with my hand and hit open

and well motor would close it like 1/4 of an inch each time
and well eventually i got her totally closed

i took off the glass when i did mine...but up to you
