I know I need a puller, but I dont know how to get the bottom piece of the cover off because I dont know how to remove the tilt steering rod...

What all do I need to remove to get that cover out from behind the steering wheel? And how do I remove it?

Manta Z(The Primered One) wrote:- Have the wheel straight before u do any of this..
- Disconnect - terminal
- Pull airbag fuse, let car sit for 10min and then press brakes(some say this step isnt needed.. i didnt do this or the second step listed here but i list just for ur safety..)
- 2 10mm(maybe 7mm.. cant remember.. doing this by memory..) bolts on the back of the wheel hold the airbag in, the bolts will not fall out so just unbolt them till teh airbag comes free.
- Disconnect the airbag connector, horn, and negative lead
- Remove Steering wheel nut(unsure of size.. sorry)
- Use steering wheel puller and remove the wheel(be sure when tighten the bolts down for the puller to tighten them evenly.. dont tighten one all teh way down then do the next one, chance of breaking the bolt in the wheel
- Remove C-clip on the shaft, then pull out the Airbag clock spring(white/yellow plastic circle behind the wheel)
- Disconnect the airbag clock spring by following the wire to a connector
- Take your MOMO hub and line the top hole striaght up and make sure the arrow is also pointing up. (the square hole in the MOMO hub should be right infront/ontop of the hole for the horn wire to go into)
- Tighten the Steering wheel nut
- Install horn wire(varies each wheel but get me pic of the wheel and horn wires and i can easily help you out)
- Set and align wheel on hub and tighten all ur screws
- Insert fuse and reconnect the - terminal
- Test horn
- Start car and constantly turn wheel back in forth and make sure the wheel is on securely.. increase how hard u turn as u keep turning..

Thats basically the how-to of what i did.. after reading through it multiple times i cant think of any step i've might have missed..

I just removed my steering wheel and installed a tekniq auto quick release system. My question is concerning the yellow airbag cord , from the steering wheel airbag, that goes through the steering column up under the dash. I just unplugged it from under the dash, and removed it. Now my airbag dummy light comes on. I am going to see if removing the airbag fuse will fix this, but I would prefer to still have the passenger side airbag functional if at all possible, if not , I will remove the whole Airbag system and all its sensors. does anyone have any info?

u will need a air bag simulator for ur pass airbag to work propery.. with ur airbag light on it will not allow either airbags to function.. removing the fuse wil also disable the seat belt light.. it will constantly flash or stay on.. most just use a simulator or like i will do is place electrical tape over it on the inside and it will just be hidden.. still on but not visible..

The rod twists out, it's really tight, I had to use pliers to get mine out and so it's all chewed up at the end now

I was happy when I heard my car ran 10s. Then I found out that was 0-60.

Thanks. So it seems to me as if this is the best way to stop the light from flashing.

On the bright side at least I can block off the daytime running light, shift light, seatbelt light ( even though I wear seatbelts at all times), and airbag lights. Plus, if I take off all the airbag components my car will be a little cleaner/ lighter.

well, I just completed the dash removal and replacement to tape over the aforementioned lights (daytime running light, shift light, seatbelt light , and airbag lights). It looks good, and worked. I also took out the passenger side airbag while I was at it since it wasn't functional anyway.

I stuck a couple of pieces of electrical tape down each hole as needed, so the cover would mount flush, as opposed to just putting tape over the hole.

I will probably take out the rest of the airbag elecctrical components and connections tommorrow.
My rims come monday!!!!

So once the steering wheel is off, i will get the airbag light and a seat belt light?

no, just air bag light. removing the fuse causes the seat belt light to come on too.

You dont need a puller to get a steering wheel off... a mallet and tapping around the ring will pop it off as well... found this out at the wrecker after I forgot to bring my puller

All I did to get the bottom cover off was unscrew it and then pulled off the ignition side first then slipped it over the tilt rod. Its a real b**ch to get but it does fit off and on. Just have patience and a little force.

airbagsimulator.com lol i searched online, my buddies civic had the simulators under the dash basically right by the air bags. Not sure if the J-bodys do or not.
If not. then search online for one. Last i checked for one, it was like 30 bucks.
Anyone have any idea if the J's have this simulator in t he car.
