all right well i have no idea on how to take it off....i want to put a knob that i bought on it......i read the sticky and it said that if its a 2000+ then just yank on it.....but it dont come off.....could some1 explian and also what do i do with the reverse lever that i have to pull up on.....any help would be great.....
Auto or Manual???
If its an auto, there is a c clip on the front side of the knob. Use a flat head screwdriver to pop it out.

for a manual...i had to do some cutting to get it off. as for the reverse lockout.. you can just completely remove it if you feel comfortable that youre not going to accidently going to throw it into reverse at any speed over a slow roll. other than that you just have to make sure the spring has something to push against under the new knob. they do make knobs that are made to work with the reverse lockout if you wanna take a look for one of those. and just as some last words of advice...SEARCH!!!

well for my cavalier i just pulled up really hard and twisted it and eventually it came off, not sure if its the same for a sunfire.....and thats for the manual transmission
Twist, yank, and pull on the fawking knob until it pops, but be careful when it does. I know I gave myself a bloody nose when mine finally popped off, and I believe I read a couple of others have done the same.
Gotta keep on livin', L-I-V-I-N

As far as I knew it won't shift into reverse if you're going forward more than 10 or 15 mph.. unless you double clutch.

if automatic just remove the rubber gripping on the top (easier imo) and remove that little plastic pin that is on the side of facing your radio.... I have a 04 fire and it was cake - once I found out you jus t pry that lil pin out.. gl

Just grab it, twist, and yank up. Maybe a heatgun would help, but I just pulled on mine.
