Dyed Headliner / Carbon Fiber Sunroof Slider

Finally got around to doing this mod - it was a little intimidating but turned out great. I used 4 cans of spray dye on it, the only hard part was putting it back in due to the tweeters, etc I have up there. There are a few spots in the pics that make it look like the tan shows through but it's actually pretty solid in real life.

Anyway, the headliner and rubber sunroof trim now match the rest of the interior. Visors have been dropped off at an upholstery shop to be recoved in some vinyl I found that matches the stock Graphite perfectly. I tried to do it myself but wanted to keep a professional appearance so figured I'd spend the 80 bucks...

While I had the headliner out, I created a new sunroof switch that will light up in blue. It's all prewired - just waiting for my new decal and will hook it up this weekend. I changed the icon to a little sun. If you want to see my thread where I did the same thing to my door lock switches, Click Here

That just left me with the ugly tan slider. I did a CF slider cover before, but it was wavy and crap. No need to post a link to THAT thread... This new stuff that my CF guy makes came out perfect. I cut the sheet out by hand and trimmed the hole for the handle out with an Exacto. Sprayed the back of it with a generous amount of 3-M Super 77 and smoothed it down flat with a cloth-covered squeegee. It's been up for a few 90 degree days with no problems. I also had to create a new black PVC trim piece and threw the CF piece into the handle as a finishing touch. Everything slides great. Jason will probably offer these up for sale when the time comes as I am sending him the template with everything else. They will NOT be cheap since you have to use a small sheet of CF thats close to a hundred bucks just for the material, but it's a great piece and worth the money.

Thanks for checking this out - let me know what you think or if you have any questions.

-Steve

PS - anyone who wonders why I got MY piece and may still be waiting for their CF parts can check out the update I just posted in the GP forum. Your wait is nearly over! Mine did not require water jet cutting since it's just a big rectangle with a hole cut out for the handle, so I got him to send it separately. I couldn't live with the tan slider any longer

Thanks guys - here is the link to the thread that pertains to the prototype I made for this thing...Ugly, Wavy Version

hehe - I was supposed to dye the headliner way back in January and just now got to it. That tan really drove me nuts but I waited until the stock XM Antenna shave to do it since I knew I'd have to pull the headliner for that anyway.

Hopefully I will never have to reinstall that thing again...

I dyed the trim with the same spray stuff. Bends and flexes just like the stock one, its like it came that color.

Is this still being made or no? If it is I would possibly be interested in this and the switch piece as well. I am plainning on dying my headliner as well.

I didn't know if anyone that was doing CF was making them on the side. Never hurts to ask about it.
