Technically, the only legal ones are the ones that are DOT approved for daily driving. For autox and other racing venues, they have their own rules.

I know Schroth harnesses are, but those are designed for BMW E36, E46, E39, Mini, VW/Audi and Subaru WRX...

PRP also carries a DOT approved 5 pt.

well..since your profile isnt filled out i dont know where your from...BUT..im an inspector here in texas and ill tell you right now that for my inspections(which i do by the book) the state says if your car came with lap belt anchors then a lap belt must be attached to them......in other words..those torx bolts holding down your seat belt? yea you have to have a belt on those to be street legal..doesnt say a certain kind of belt..just as long as theres a belt there..and no rules for shoulder straps...and im still debating the driver side right mount for i dont feel its an "anchor" ..and at this point they told me that its MY decision to pass them or not.....
hope that helps a bit

I assume your talking about federal DOT. The federal government doesn't have the power to make law pertaining to passanger vehicles after sale (at least not directly), with the possible exceptions of DC and military bases. Pesky Tenth Amendment.

Before compromising your safety, do some research on what's necessary for a harness to actually be of any benefit to you rather than a step backwards from your stock belts.

I can honestly tell you that in British Columbia (Canada) that we have a law under the Motor vehicle act that the original "passenger restraint system" must not be altered or disabled in any way. So even though harnesses aren't ILLEGAL, it would be illegal to take out the old belts.

So.... Add your harnesses, and a harness bar, leave your belts there. Besides, You really want to drive around in harnesses all of the time?
