Hey guys/gals i have a 96' cavy and was wonding if you leave you headlights on and turn off the car you you get a door chime warning you left your lights on? the owner of the car before me rewired the lights cause of the daytime running light relay not working but butchered the wiring aswell ..since then i forget to turn off the lights and wake up the next day in need of a boost i have the new relay and a clue of the wiring and how it works I'm just waiting for some warmer temps to work on it should i be hearing bells after?

You should hear door chimes. The module that produces the chimes is in the passenger footwell just next to the glovebox. I would get a Chilton's/FSM and check the wires in that circuit. Its basically the door pin and the lights on wired to the chimebox I believe

Looks like you have a non-stock headunit. I believe that replacing the factory radio eliminates doorchimes, so that could be your issue.

I was happy when I heard my car ran 10s. Then I found out that was 0-60.

That only occurs in 2000 and up. 95-98 didnt havent integrated chimes in the radio.

I lost chimes in a pre 00 grand am and pre 00 z24 with an aftermarket head unit and no "brain". Not to mention mine as well (02 cav). My guess is that when they put in the new deck, they didn't buy the expensive harness that allows the chimes to continue working.

Notice how I said 95-98 and I was refering to j-bodies only. I dont have specifics on other vehicles because some of those may have recieved the internal car networks a little sooner than others. And Im sure the Z24 was probably a special case just because it was the upper end of the family, but for that one, I wouldnt know. Im sure some of the GM techs could tell you which years actually got the radio that controlled the chimes and for what cars.

Again its a 96' 4-door non - z OBD2 ..with a after market stereo since owning the car iv'e heard the chimes once when the car was running down the road and the alt, went on me The engine light, Selt belt light, Head light, ABS warning light, The door chime...and then the car quit on me.. The head lights work right now when you turn them on but no daytimes highbeams work as well I'm thinking the wires were cut and rewired to do this from the last guy the had it i'm going to try following the wires and see where is was by-passed and rewired but i should here the chimes when this is correct?

Chimes should sound when you leave your lights on/key in the ignition and door opens and if your seat belt is unbuckled. The module is next to the glove box in the passenger well. I dont know how the DRL's factor into that. I will not have an FSM for another 2 weeks to even check.
