clearing HVAC knobs...

first of all..i dont have a cavalier..im only a member here because i thought i was getting a cavy...but i ended up getting a 99 malibu.

anyways...id like to have cleared hvac knobs....white only...im not into the whole red, blue, green, etc interior lighting...unless i plan on converting all of the lights, which id do in red, blue or amber

arite...anyways, do the cavalier (the late model ones...like 95 style and up?) have clear knobs once you peel off the rubber? im wondering if the knobs will fit on my malibu...as i heard a few cars have interchangable ones. also, if they are white/clear after you take the rubber off....could someone take a picture of them...one in the day and one at night with the lights on?

-thanks

found a pic on ebay of cleared cavy knobs..so i guess they are white!

found a pic on ebay of cleared cavy knobs..so i guess they are white!

but...i kinda dont like how they are a very dullish yellowish yellow

i was hoping they would glow more of a white, like the white for the backlighting for the fan speed knob. i guess i could try to throw in some white leds...but im not sure how i could do that.

but for people w/ clear knobs, is this how it really looks?

for the most part, yes

the actuall knob is clear

but the light shinin thru the actual cluster makes it

look kinda yellowish

you can always get Bright White LEDs and stick them in there

i'm not sure about malibu's but ours we can use #194 or 174 i forget which #

LED replacement off ebay..

try lookin in the manual or Malibu forums

hope that helps

the malibu uses hvac bulbs that arent exactly changeable..theyre soldered into the circuit board or whatever......i wish ours were just bulbs that popped out of the socket. i havent actually seen it myself though...maybe it isnt too hard to change them

other members on the n-body and a malibu forum

when you guys do the lights...do you replace the oem lights in the HVAC unit, or do you somehow add leds for each knob?

i dropped 4 leds into my clear plate and just hooked it up to a switch ( i got LEDs in my cluster too)

hope that helps

that looks pretty nice! i read on the malibu forum that the HVAC lights are little leds or reg. bulbs that are soldered down to the circuit board, and they are weird bubls..im not sure what type. even though i can solder and everything, i dont think i want to open it up and mess w/ it.

i think ill have to see where i can fit an LED for each knob.

Old Thread, but in case anyone is still interested, you can buy LED bulbs at any electronics store and solder them in. 12V bulbs
