ok im painting my dash right now i was wonder what i do if i get runs in it. is it ok to sand the actual paint or what do i do?
painting the top dash pad, or bottom of the dash, or the gauge bezel?

the plastic part where the gauges are around the HVAC and stuff
depending on how big of a run it is, you could try wet-sanding it. otherwise, just sand it again, and repaint another coat

what and how do you wet sand?
high grit sand paper and water. put constant water on the area and lightly sand.
hmmmm... what does that do compared to normal sanding?
umm lubricates and makes it a lot finer....it more or less polishes it out....if you dont know this much, you should step away from the paint and start reading
dont sand basecoat, it will never turn out very nice, and plus, it is almost impossible to FULLY get out a run by sanding. Just let it dry fully,a nd i mean fully, or if u try to sand it, u will have a mess. Sand all of it back out, and repaint it. If it is clearcoated, here is a little trick i learned in Vietnam, take a razorblade, curn the sharp edge back a little bit, and but masking tape around the two edges of the razorblade, so it makes a little "channel" in the middle of the razorblade. So when you pull the razorblade over the run, only the high spot will get hit by it. This is the best way of getting out runs.

haha, my sho[ teacher always says it, actually, i do a lot of job shadows, and i mean a lot of them, and i job shadowed one of the most respected body guys i can even think of. Alright, this guy did his first chop-top when he was 14 years old. He channeled his friends willys 7 inches when he was like 18. His work is unbelieveable, he told me the trick. He did the bodywork for the best-of-show corvette at the National all Corvette show. I looked at some of his pictures of cars hes done, amazing. But i have learned quite a bit from him, so yea, its a good trick.
