My question is how hard is it to change?? Its already been changed once before so it has 2 nuts and bolts holding it in place.
Is it simple just un bolting and poping out and sliding the new one in place. IF someone knows of a Tutorial showing this that would be helpfull.
Oh and my window got stuck down so i will be a tight fit.. thanks.

from what i understand, the hardest part is drilling out the rivets (no worries for you) and then squeezing everything in there. did you get a j-body specific motor or a universal motor? i don't know if anyone has posted a how to yet. let me know how it goes cuz i gotta do my drivers rear as soon as i get the money to buy the new motor.
i'm lucky like you, at one point or another, the dealership has replaced all four of my window motors for me while under warranty. this'll be the first time i have to do it. you would think that something which is such a wide spread problem in j-body's would be addressed by the company. i've never had to replace the window motors in my wifes 98 corolla...cheap bastards
GO PATS!!!
ya this motor is made for a cavalier, I paid a guy 40 bucks to install it last time.
Since the rivets are out i thought i would try to do it and save the 40 bucks, From what i can see is get the other motor out, slide this new one in there and line up everything..
Is there greese that i need? I want to regreese my vert top and the tracks for the windows
I'm not sure. There is no mention of removing the window or not in that tutorial. My guess is you would have to remove it once you detach it from the bracket on the mechanism that slides up and down, otherwise you'd prolly nedd another person there to hold it up in place until you got the new motor install and bolted/riveted in.
You will have to remove the window... and if it's down, then that's really the best place for it.
You can access the retainers through holes at the bottom of the door.
Not sure if it has to be all the way down, or just most of the way down to have them line up with the access holes though.
Mine had been previously replaced as well... and the dealer put in new rivets. hehe. Now it's got bolts.
Ya my window is all the way down. and it won't move at all, I hear the motor clicking when i hit the button.
So when i looked at my window there is just 2 screw type things ihave to unscrew then it will slide out?
damn, i was hoping i was lucky and the dealer just put in screws or something...oh well...i'll just disconnect the motor. i don't use my rear windows anyways.
GO PATS!!!

There are two plastic holders, riveted to the window, and held to the regulator with a nut. If you unscrew both of them, you can then lift the window up and out.
First take off the window trim though to make it easier to lift out the window.
^^ thanks guys,
You all have been alot of help, that is my project for the afternoon
Man, i've replaced both window motors and the driver's side had to be replaced about a month later. If you haven't already done it, keep your window down and remove it from the track. Pull it all the way up and find away to keep it up (someone help you maybe). Unbolt the piece near the hinge and unbolt the motor. It's tricky to remove the whole assembly but it can be done. Then just take the motor off the assembly, be careful cuz there's a spring to help the window up and that will open up when the motor isn't attached. Then re-do the process backwards.

Be very careful when removing the motor from the regulator! That clock spring has a lot of tension in it and you could really hurt yourself if the regulator takes off a finger or something like a big pair of spring-loaded scissors!
Most instructions will tell you to drill a hole through the regulator in a spot where you can put a bolt through to lock it in position before changing the motor.
I didn't read any of those instructions before taking mine apart.
Trying to put mine back together, I was pretty sure I had that damned spring back in place. When everything was together in the door though, the first time I closed the door with the window up, I heard a bit of a clanking noise. It was the sound of the clock spring dropping off and landing at the bottom of the door.
For all the work and frustration I'd gone through to get the damned thing changed, the LAST thing in the world I wanted to do was to take it all apart again to take a second stab at positioning the spring.
I tried the window a few times and it seemed to work just fine.
Then, on a whim, I opened up the passenger side door to see if there was any retainer or anything on the spring and lo and behold... there was no spring.
So I threw it out.
And now my driver's side window works better than ever. heh.
While you've got the regulator out, give it a good cleaning with a strong degreaser (I sprayed the hell out of it with brake cleaner) and use some white grease on the sliders in it. Coat the pivot with a goodly amount of WD-40 (I can't remember whether I greased that part) and lube all the window tracks, both inside the door and up around the top, with some spray-on silicone lube.
A bit of maintenance can save a lot of future hassles!
^^ thanks alot man
What kind of spray on silicone lube did u use. Can you find it at any auto placE?
The name brand stuff is called Jig-A-Loo or something like that. I used a store brand generic.
It's a little different with the verts. There is an extra rail you need to take out. The vertical rail near the latch. Goes from top to bottom. Two bolts and its out and so is the window.
hey guys i started trying to change my motor and do i have to take out the whole bar that the window is bolted to? Is that the regulator My car is half way in my garage with the window half way up held by a hammer so it don't fall and bust
thanks for any help?
Well if the convertible is different, as Tom mentioned, then I'm no authority here. For the coupe though, you have to remove the window trim, then remove the window, then remove the regulator (big metal scissors thing that lifts the window) and then replace the motor on it. Then put it all back together.

Unbolt the window from the "bar" then take the other two nuts off from the vertical slider. the window should pull out.
The vert is a little bit harder than a non vert.
^^ alright thanks guys that cleared it up, i will start again when it gets light outside I wasn't sure what you were calling the regulator.
now i know thanks alot!!
